Gareth Bale Would Transform Manchester United in to Premier League Title Winners

Sam PilgerDec 29, 2014

Gareth Bale was the one that got away for Manchester United in the summer of 2013.

As Jason Burt in The Daily Telegraph reports, the Welshman was the player the former United manager David Moyes coveted the most in the transfer market 16 months ago.

The signing of Bale would have been a major statement of intent for Moyes and United as they embarked on a new era together.

The Daily Telegraph reports United got as far as lodging a world record bid with Tottenham for Bale, and that Moyes met with their technical director Franco Baldini in August 2013 but, ultimately, the player informed Moyes by phone that he would not be coming to Old Trafford.

It was perfectly understandable he was instead drawn to Real Madrid and the chance to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

But now speculation is rife once again that United retain an interest in Bale and will attempt to sign him in 2015, per SPORT (h/t James Dickenson of the Express).

It is a move that could genuinely interest both parties next summer.

MADRID, SPAIN - DECEMBER 06: Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid celebrates with Gareth Bale after scoring Real's opening goal during the La Liga match between Real Madrid CF and Celta Vigo at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on December 6, 2014 in Madrid, Spain.

For Bale, he would have spent two seasons fulfilling his Real Madrid dream, and he would return home with Champions League, World Club Cup and Copa del Rey winners medals, and possibly even more by the end of this season.

He would also return to the Premier League with his head held high as an overwhelming success. The man who conquered La Liga.

But at the Bernabeu, Bale will always be Ronaldo’s understudy, and so it could appeal to him that for the next stage of his career he would be the main man at Old Trafford and have a side built around him.

Real Madrid are always in a state of flux, looking to hire the next big thing. The European champions might not be against selling Bale, especially if they could receive a new world record transfer fee for him.

In turn, the arrival of Bale at United would immediately transform Louis van Gaal’s side in to title winners.

In his last season in the Premier League, Bale was a man who could win games almost on his own at Tottenham, and scored 26 goals in 44 games.

Bale would now return from Spain an even better player, having honed his skills these past two years alongside Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria and James Rodriguez.

The Welshman turns 26 next summer, and at the peak of his powers, he would be ready to dominate the Premier League.

Parachute him in to a United side where the defence had also been strengthened, and which already boasts Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, it is hard to see beyond United as title winners in the 2015-16 season.

Van Gaal’s side has the potential to score a lot of goals but, especially in Di Maria’s absence, lacks the players to open up defences with pace and power, particularly away from Old Trafford.

Bale would immediately rectify all of that, and so United would be wise to follow through and make him their priority in the transfer market next summer.
