Welcome to Sunday, Mr. Ringer !

Adam BiggersAug 5, 2009

If you're not a Spartan fan, or didn't get a chance to watch Big Ten games, you may not know who Javon Ringer is. Not only was he the best kept secret of the Big Ten coming into last year, he was also a vastly underrated running back entering the NFL draft last spring.

As a fifth round pick up, Javon could end up as a "Tom Brady" story. Late round, no hype, destined for greatness. I'm not saying Javon will be as great as Tom Brady, but let's face it, not many people saw the "all mighty" Mr. Brady being where he is today.

Solid. Stout. Resilient. Those are just a few words to describe 2008's second leading scorer in the nation coming out of East Lansing, and  into the 2009 NFL draft. He led the nation in attempts in the '08 campaign with 390, and did not fumble ONCE ! I repeat, 390 carries, not one fumble. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Notta.

Javon's junior and senior years were relatively mirror images of themselves. Give him the ball, he'll carry the offense. Although his touchdowns pale in comparison to his 2008 season, in his junior year, 2007, Javon averaged 5.9 a carry, while getting 245 touches. That translated into 1,447 yards for the Spartan offense. His senior year, the break-out year for the Spartan workhorse, produced numbers much more inflated than the previous season... 390 carries, 1,637 yards, 22 touchdowns (led the nation), and 132 points( good enough for second, behind Missouri's kicker, Jeff Wolfert, with 133 ). Enough said.

During most of the 2008 season, Javon and Connecticut's Donald Brown were in a race for the rushing and scoring title. Donald, who went late in the first round to the Indianapolis Colts, received considerable praise, while Javon went under many team's radar.

Ringer has moved onto the big time, and will be a compliment to an already stellar backfield in Tennessee. Lendale White, the thunder to Reggie Bush's lightning, slimmed down during the off season, and is a punishing back. Chris Johnson, the envy of any fantasy roster, is coming off a 1,000 yard season, and averaged just under five yards a carry.

Will a three back rotation be in order for the Titans ?

Yes.

Javon Ringer can and will be immediately successful in the Jeff Fisher school of football. The Titans were a middle of the road team last year when it came to offense. The acquisition of Javon Ringer, the 5'9'' , 202 lb., 4.3 speed, can-do-it-all attitude, may be the "jab" the Titans are looking for.
