Ranking Barcelona's Top 10 Goals of 2014

Jason PettigroveDec 30, 2014

Barcelona have scored some pretty astonishing goals in 2014.

From individual brilliance, to outstanding team play, there have been a feast of strikes to keep the purist happy.

Some were decisive, others not so, but that shouldn't take away from the quality of any finish.

Let's see if you agree with the top 10...

10. Andres Iniesta: Real Madrid vs. Barca

1 of 10

The goal which started a classic El Clasico.

Just six minutes were on the clock when Barca were schooling Real Madrid's best centrally with some rapid tiki-taka.

With almost the entire Real defence drawn to the ball, Andres Iniesta found himself in oceans of space.

Lionel Messi spotted his run and his pass was so good that Iniesta didn't even have to break stride.

One touch to set himself and then the ball was smacked past Diego Lopez in a flash.

9. Lionel Messi: Barca vs. Rayo Vallecano

2 of 10

Rayo Vallecano were trying to out-pass Barca on the halfway line. Never a good idea if your defence is going to play a high line.

Once the ball had been intercepted by Cesc Fabregas, there was never any doubt a goal would result.

With the entire defence forward, a simple through ball from Cesc fell at the feet of Lionel Messi who applied the gloss with a first-time chip from the edge of the area.

8. Ivan Rakitic: Levante vs. Barca

3 of 10

What a way to open your account at your new club!

Levante were like lambs to the slaughter on the night and it was the Croatian's first-time fizzer that lit up this game.

Desperately trying to clear the ball, the home defence only succeeded in heading the ball straight to the feet of Rakitic who slammed it home.

7. Lionel Messi: Barca vs. Almeria

4 of 10

A goal that was all about Lionel Messi.

A long clearance from Adriano Correia at left-back was eventually picked up, via a clearance, by the Argentine on the centre spot.

Beating Miguel Angel Corona, he was then pulled back but in typical Messi fashion continued his run until the same player, still holding his shirt, halted Messi's run entirely.

The diminutive number 10 exacted appropriate revenge.

From almost 30 yards, Messi stepped up and wrapped his left foot around the ball. Heading wide of the post, it bent into the top corner at the very last moment and beyond the reach of the keeper.

6. Alexis Sanchez: Barca vs Elche

5 of 10

A goal that bears a striking similarity to Lionel Messi's vs. Almeria.

Alexis Sanchez was on fire in this match scoring a hat-trick against Elche

His free-kick was expertly taken, curling the ball over the wall and ensuring it dipped as it hit the back of the net.

Poetic.

5. Neymar: Barca vs. Paris Saint-Germain

6 of 10

The big matches are defined by performances and moments from the big players.

Cometh the hour, cometh Neymar.

Barcelona's second goal in the Camp Nou return against Paris Saint-Germain was the one which turned the balance of the tie firmly in favour of the Catalans.

Not too dissimilar to another goal in this list, the Brazilian picked the ball up midway inside the opposition half and set off with one single thought in his mind.

With PSG far too lax in closing him down, Neymar was allowed to pick his spot. Something he did with aplomb.

4. Andres Iniesta: Barca vs. Osasuna

7 of 10

Andres Iniesta doesn't score many, but when he does, they're normally pretty notable for their quality.

A superlative team move was met with the finish it deserved.

Jordi Alba received possession and played across to Javier Mascherano in the centre circle. A long ball to the right found Dani Alves in acres of space and the Brazilian made his way to the edge of the area before swapping passes with Alexis Sanchez.

A simple ball back to Sergio Busquets was played first time to Iniesta's feet. Two touches to set himself and then a swing of his left peg.

Executed to perfection.

3. Neymar: Barca vs. Rayo Vallecano

8 of 10

Probably Neymar's best goal in his first season at Barcelona.

Picking up the ball just inside Rayo Vallecano's half, the Brazilian managed to evade the crude tackle of Roberto Trashorras before setting off with purpose.

The defence continued to back off until Neymar saw his chance.

Although his run was beginning to take him wide of goal, he managed to unleash a venomous shot into the opposite top corner from all of 25 yards.

2. Lionel Messi: Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barca

9 of 10

It was a work of absolute beauty.

Receiving the ball near the centre circle, Andres Iniesta turned goalwards and immediately played a ball to the feet of Neymar.

The Brazilian, sensing the defender on his shoulder, used his first touch to keep the ball away from his marker and as another closed on him a sharp pass to Lionel Messi kept the move alive.

The Argentinian's first touch was to the on-rushing Iniesta who had continued his run, bringing him inside the area.

Another first-time ball back to Messi with pinpoint precision had created the smallest of spaces, and Messi's placed first-time shot had hit the back of the net before David Luiz could close him down.

Breathtaking.

1. Alexis Sanchez: Barca vs. Atletico Madrid

10 of 10

Seen from behind the goal, Alexis Sanchez's bullet hits the net before Thibaut Courtois has even finished his dive.

Against a keeper that tops 6' in height, and from such an acute angle, it's no mean feat to leave him looking a little silly.

It's clear from the reaction of the fans what the goal meant to Barcelona at the time, even though it was ultimately in vain.

TV cameras captured the ferocity of the shot here.

As sweet a strike as you will ever see and a deserved No. 1 in this list.
