WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from December 23

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 23, 2014

Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of this week's Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.

It's still Christmas week, but WWE toned down the celebration for Main Event after going a little overboard on Monday's Raw.

There was definitely a few things to enjoy from this week's episode, but it wasn't a show you would be sorry you missed.

Let's take a look at what happened on this week's Main Event.

Tyson Kidd and Cesaro vs. Los Matadores

The show opened with a tag team match featuring Los Matadores taking on Cesaro and Tyson Kidd.

The seemingly random pairing of Cesaro and Kidd was a little baffling at first, but they have turned into quite the well-oiled machine.

They are both very technical, but they wrestle completely different styles. The double-team moves they have developed really play to their strengths and show how well these two work together.

This wasn't an especially great match, but it provided some decent entertainment and gave a new tag team some momentum with a victory.

As expected, Natalya was basically an afterthought at ringside. It's too bad such a talented Diva is stuck in a storyline about her marriage and not chasing the title.

Winners: Tyson Kidd and Cesaro

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights:

  • Kidd kicking Diego while Cesaro was swinging him looked very painful.
  • The jumping spin kick into a German suplex was another nice double-team move.
  • Natalya was really overdressed.

Twitter Reaction:

Summer Rae vs. Brie Bella

Brie Bella picked up an easy win over Summer Rae in a mediocre match. They didn't do anything wrongthey just didn't do anything special.

Summer is always good with facial expressions, but no amount of acting could have gotten the crowd into this one.

Winner: Brie Bella

Grade: D

Notes and Highlights

  • Who do you cheer for when both opponents are heels?
  • You can really tell this was pre-taped. The crowd sounded like it loved the match, but you could tell by watching the fans' body language that they didn't care.

Twitter Reaction:

Stardust vs. Big E

To the surprise of a lot of people, The New Day and Gold and Stardust are still feuding. This match came about after a backstage segment earlier in the evening saw Stardust mock the young stable from a monitor in the back.

Stardust used his quickness to control most of the match, but Big E had a few opportunities to show off his power.

Goldust tried to help his brother by causing a distraction, but he ended up accidentally knocking him off the top rope, costing him the match in the process.

It's possible WWE is doing a slow build leading to an eventual Goldust vs. Stardust feud. This is the second time in the past two weeks that a miscommunication has cost them a victory.

If and when they eventually part ways, it will be very interesting to see if Cody Rhodes keeps the Stardust gimmick or if he reverts back to being a normal person.

Winner: Big E

Grade: C+

Notes and Highlights:

  • What's with Kingston and Woods making fun of Big E for how much he sweats lately?
  • Goldust and Stardust must use different brands of paint. Stardust's seems to wipe off really easily, and Goldust's tends to either stay in place or fall off in clumps.
  • Somebody should track Stardust's wins and losses for 2014. It seems like he loses most of his matches, especially singles bouts.

Twitter Reaction:

Luke Harper vs. Jack Swagger

Luke Harper and Jack Swagger had a much better match than anyone would have expected going into the show.

With a solid 20 minutes to work, Swagger and Harper brought out the best in each other. It was very physical and showed off both men's stronger attributes.

Harper picked up the win, allowing him to bounce back a bit after losing to Dolph Ziggler in another great match on Raw.

Harper is becoming one of the most consistent performers on the roster, and 2015 is hopefully when he finds his groove and realizes his potential.

Winner: Luke Harper

Grade: A-

Notes and Highlights:

  • JBL made a Walking Dead reference. He finally brought his jokes into this century.
  • Cole spent way too much time talking about Harper's hygiene.
  • JBL calling Harper's finisher The Clothesline From Smell was kind of funny.
