Matchups to Exploit

You have to very carefully monitor players on teams that have little to play for this week, for starters. If a team can't really improve their playoff positioning at all, it's possible that even if they play their starters they won't keep them in for the entire game.

So be mindful of that.

At quarterback, Tony Romo has a great matchup against a Washington team that has given up 33 touchdown passes this season, tied for worst in the NFL, and is giving up 246 passing yards per game, 22nd in the league. Romo is pretty hot of late too, with 10 touchdown passes in his last three games, so he's a player worth considering.

Two other defenses that tend to be fairly friendly to opposing quarterbacks are the Chicago Bears (33 touchdown passes allowed, 31st in passing yards per game) and the Philadelphia Eagles (in standard leagues, they've given up 18 or more fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks 10 times).

If you are looking to bargain shop at quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater is your guy. Eli Manning won't be a bad option either, however.

You should always target a running back facing the Tennessee Titans, a team giving up 142.1 rushing yards per game (31st in the NFL) and one that has given up 21 touchdowns to opposing running backs (31st). I prefer Dan Herron to Trent Richardson, making Herron an excellent bargain-bin option this week.

The Atlanta Falcons have given up a league-worst 22 touchdowns to opposing running backs, so Jonathan Stewart is a great candidate to find the end zone. You could argue Cam Newton has a great shot to reach paydirt as well.

Oh, and you can always trust a running back to tear it up against Oakland's dreadful run defense. C.J. Anderson should finish his season on a high note.

At wide receiver, look to exploit matchups against Washington, Philadelphia and Houston. All three teams have given up 21 touchdowns to opposing wide receivers, tied for worst in the NFL. On the other hand, just one team has given up over 3,000 receiving yards to opposing wideouts this season: the Atlanta Falcons.

Look for Kelvin Benjamin to go off.

The Bears and Jets have given up 13 touchdowns to opposing tight ends this season, tied for worst in the NFL, something worth keeping in mind if you don't want to pay big for a tight end this week. Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals are the only defense in the league to give up over 1,000 receiving yards to opposing tight ends, so if you're feeling truly brave you could take Vernon Davis for a spin.

You'll need to be really, really brave to go in that direction, of course.

Finally, at defense, get Houston into your lineup. The Jacksonville Jaguars can make any defense look good, and Houston's defense is already pretty solid to begin with. That J.J. Watt fella helps in that regard. Houston is a home-run selection for your one-week league this week.
