The newest member of the Cubs, Tom Gorzelanny, threw a gem on Tuesday night versus the Reds.

When Gorezelanny was pulled in the eighth inning, the Cubs fans in the crowd of over 17,000 at The Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati gave Gorzelanny a well deserved standing ovation. A little unusual for on the road if you ask me.

"It was great," Gorzelanny told cubs.com. "It shows how big this team is, having more fans here than the home team. It's definitely a different feeling coming from where I came from. It was something I'll probably remember for a while."

Gorzelanny was acquired from the Pirates in a five-player deal on July 30.

On Tuesday, Gorzelanny held the Reds to three hits and one run over 7 1/3 innings. It was a pretty good debut if you ask me.

"What a nice first impression," Hill said of Gorzelanny. "It's really good for him to get off to a first start. It's going to be big for us."

Gorzelanny has not made a major league start since September 10 and hasn't pitched any big league ball since June 9.

After June 9 Gorzelanny was sent down to the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate, Indianapolis. Gorzelanny made 15 starts and acquired a 4-1 record.

Gorzelanny really made an impression on skipper, Lou Piniella. He maintained his velocity throughout his start and only walked one.

Gorzelanny is scheduled to start two more games before Lilly returns. His next game is set to be Sunday in Colorado.

Once Lilly returns, the Cubs will have to make a decision on what to do with Gorzelanny.

Gorzelanny hopes to remain on the big league club and do what ever the team needs him to do.
