Michigan Wolverine's Brandon Minor Named To Doak Walker Watch List
University of Michigan tailback Brandon Minor (Richmond, Va./Varina HS) headlines a list of three Big Ten Conference running backs named to the watch list for the 2009 Doak Walker Award, announced Tuesday evening (Aug. 4) by The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum.
The other league backs nominated for the award presented annually to the nation's top college running back were Wisconsin's John Clay and Ohio State's Dan Herron.
Minor earned All-Big Ten honorable mention from the conference coaches in 2008 after leading the team with 533 rushing yards on 103 carries and nine rushing touchdowns. He also added five receptions for 59 yards and two scores. Minor carried the ball a career-high 24 times for 155 yards and scored a personal-best three touchdowns at Purdue last season.
Minor has four career 100-yard rushing efforts in his career, including a career-best 157-yard effort on 21 carries against Minnesota in 2007.
He has rushed 235 times for 1,158 yards (4.9 avg.) and scored 12 rushing touchdowns in his career. In addition, Minor has nine receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns in his career and also has returned 14 kickoffs for 261 yards. He has played in 33 games and started four contests at running back.
The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will select the semifinalists on Nov. 11, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the finalists, who will be announced on Nov. 23.
The recipient of the 2009 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on ESPN on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 10.
