The Browns have been scrambling to find a quarterback over the last 24 hours. The team reportedly reached out to Rex Grossman, but Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported the holiday week wasn't good timing for the former Chicago Bears signal-caller:
Thigpen was a natural backup plan for the Browns. He was signed by the team in May and worked with them through August before being released, ironically after Grossman agreed to terms with Cleveland.
Johnny Manziel was injured early in Cleveland's Week 16 loss against Carolina and has already been ruled out for Week 17, via Fowler on ESPN.com. Hoyer injured his shoulder in the same game, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:
Connor Shaw is Cleveland's third-string quarterback and could be in line to make his first career start, depending on what happens with Hoyer. Thigpen has started 12 games in his career but none since 2010.
The Browns are desperate to find anyone healthy who can help get through the final game and appear to have found their man.
