Lewandowski Starting in Camp Nou Clash

Wednesday, May 6

The club released their starting lineup against Barcelona, highlighted by Lewandowski:

The tournament's official Twitter feed confirmed on May 5 the news of the forward's inclusion in the squad.

Pep Guardiola told reporters later in the day that the striker trained with the team on Monday and Tuesday, according to Sport: "Lewandowski trained yesterday, he trained today. I will speak with him because we need 11 players at 100 percent."

The May 6 match has been Lewandowski's target for some time now. The player tweeted he hoped to return against Barca on April 29:

On the morning after the loss against BVB, Tom Adams of Yahoo passed along word from Bayern doctor Jacek Jaroszewski, who confirmed the severity of the problem: "Robert has a fractured jawbone and a concussion."

Bayern's official Twitter quickly added that Lewandowski's nose was also broken:

Lewandowski Suffers Concussion

Bayern reported Lewandowski had to go to the hospital following the match.

Taylor Twellman of ESPN was critical of the team's decision to leave him in the game following the head injury:

The knock comes at a far from ideal time for the German champions, who lost the semi-final match on penalties.

Lewandowski has impressed early in his Bayern career.

Lewandowski has become an integral part of this team since his summer switch from Dortmund, too, giving the Bavarians a refreshed attacking edge with his astute forward play and clinical finishing.

But in terms of a classic No. 9 option, Lewandowski is the best fit for the German giants, and it's a huge boost they now have him back for the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
