Week 17 NFL Picks: Latest Betting Odds, Vegas Spreads and Projections

Rob GoldbergDec 23, 2014

While Week 17 is often a hit-or-miss adventure, NFL fans are in for a treat with a bunch of meaningful games in the final week of the year.

Four divisions are already locked up, and a few other teams have clinched playoff berths. However, Sunday will have a college football feel to it, with "division championship games" in the AFC North, the NFC North and the NFC South.

Those divisions and the final wild-card spots will be on the line in what should be an exciting day of football before the start of the postseason (or a long winter for those teams not in the playoffs).

Biggest Games

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers

DETROIT, MI - DECEMBER 14: Calvin Johnson #81 of the Detroit Lions looks to avoid the tackle by Andrew Sendejo #34 of the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth quarter at Ford Field on December 14, 2014 in Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit Lions win 16-14 over the

Detroit is on the brink of winning a division title, but it will take a road win against the Packers to pull it off. Unfortunately, winning in Green Bay has not been easy for the Lions, as noted by ESPN's Adam Schefter:

On the plus side, these aren't the Lions we are used to seeing. Even with plenty of promise over the last few years, the defense didn't live up to its end of the bargain. That is not the case this year, though, as Detroit boasts the No. 2 defense in the NFL.

At the very least, that means the squad will be competitive in the important Week 17 matchup.

The problem is Green Bay is extremely difficult to stop no matter who is on the other side of the field. Aaron Rodgers has developed an incredible chemistry with Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, and he can seemingly find them anywhere on the field.

As long as the Packers defense can slow down Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, Rodgers can do the rest as he looks to lock up an MVP award.

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

It might not be what anyone pictured coming into the year, but a game between a 6-9 team and a 6-8-1 team will be important for the playoffs.

Sure, the NFC South is awful, but the winner of this matchup gets a No. 4 seed and a home game in the playoffs. This result is truly amazing considering where the Panthers were a few weeks ago, as Bleacher Report's Ty Schalter pointed out:

On the other hand, the squad knows how to come through when it matters, as Andrew Siciliano of NFL.com noted:

That being said, the Falcons have the same stakes and are playing at home. Matt Ryan and Co. are 5-0 against the NFC South this season, and the squad has played much better in the second half of the year after a 2-6 start.

The team isn't perfect, but Atlanta has the talent on both sides of the ball to come through with one more win and take home the division title.

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers

After the Steelers secured a playoff spot with a win Sunday, the Bengals did the same after defeating the Denver Broncos on Monday.

Despite that fact, you can be certain both squads will be fighting as hard as possible to win the division and earn a home game in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin discussed the mindset going into Week 17:

This is a good thing for the Steelers because they generally do a good job when they play to their potential. They have struggled with focus this year and have four losses to teams with losing records, but they are 5-1 against opponents over .500.

Pittsburgh is prepared for the final week, and with Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown making plays on offense, the home team should be able to earn the win and the division title.
