Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, Luke Willson's Post-Week 16 Fantasy Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldDec 21, 2014

Fantasy championships may have swung in a big way late in the Seattle Seahawks' 35-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16.

The magic of Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson and the late surge from bruising ball-carrier Marshawn Lynch justified their statuses as No. 1 fantasy options.

SportsNation weighed in on how well the Seahawks gashed Arizona's sixth-ranked rush defense:

Wilson's dearth of receivers always welcomes new contributors to step up, and on Sunday it was tight end Luke Willson who rose to the occasion.

The Cardinals threw every blitz they could at Wilson, and the young signal-caller cooked them with his arm and legs in a monster fantasy outing. Then it was on Lynch to rumble for 79 yards and a second touchdown in the fourth quarter to ice the game and perch the Seahawks atop the NFC West.

The NFL on ESPN recorded Wilson's comments about Lynch's amazing run:

What most fantasy owners will be wondering about entering Week 17 is how much Willson can be counted on. Based on his ability to beat coverage and generate explosive plays after the catch, he should be at least considered in the tight end spot or as a flex play.

Other than Doug Baldwin, Wilson doesn't really have a go-to target, and tight ends can create mismatches in the passing game under the proper circumstances. However, Willson had just 191 yards receiving entering Sunday's game, so expectations have to be tempered despite his breakout performance on such a big stage.

Seattle takes on the St. Louis Rams in the regular-season finale at home. Given Lynch's physical style, he should still produce against the Rams' tough front seven, as should Wilson due to his improvisational skills.

Willson may have trouble getting open if St. Louis focuses on him as a threat, so beware of overreacting to his flashes of brilliance in Arizona.
