Nick Mangold Injury: Updates on Jets Star's Ankle and Return

New York Jets center Nick Mangold was carted off the field in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the New England Patriots after suffering an ankle injury. He did not return to the game. Head coach Rex Ryan revealed Mangold suffered an ankle sprain and missed Week 17.

Mangold Carted Off Against Patriots

Mangold was ruled out for the rest of the Jets' Week 16 game against New England after suffering an ankle injury.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported on Mangold, saying the team fears it's a fractured fibula.

However, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported that the x-rays on Mangold's leg came back clean:

Mangold, 30, went down on a 14-yard Bilal Powell run that helped set up the Jets for their first touchdown. The All-Pro struggled to put weight on his ankle and was unable to make it to the locker room without assistance.

In his ninth NFL season, Mangold has missed only two games. He's played in all 15 games in 2014 as one of the few bright spots in the Jets offense, failing to commit a penalty and allowing only 2.5 sacks, per the Washington Post.
