Williams Injures Oblique

Sunday, Jan. 4

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams was forced to leave the team's game Sunday against the Miami Heat with an oblique injury.

Boone provided further details about the situation:

Although, after the game, Bontemps reported that Williams likely avoided serious injury:

Williams spent much of the last two years dealing with lingering ankle issues. Not only did they force him to miss games, but the bad wheels sapped some of his playmaking ability. He finally started to show some flashes of his old self early this season.

Aside from a relatively minor calf injury, the guard has been able to stay healthy for the most part during the current campaign. Even though his numbers haven't returned to his peak, staying on the court is a step in the right direction.

Williams remains a crucial piece of the puzzle for the Nets. The last thing they need is for him to fall back into another situation where he cannot totally shake the injury issues. So they will probably make sure he's back to full strength before having him return to the lineup.
