After bouncing around from club to club for the first half of his career, Huntelaar has finally found a comfort zone at Veltins-Arena. The German club gave him consistent playing time up front and he's responded with more than 100 goals across all competitions.
The Dutch international is enjoying another solid campaign so far. He's netted 10 goals and chipped in three assists in 21 Bundesliga and Champions League games. He along with Eric Choupo-Moting have given the club a solid one-two punch on the attack.
By the time the new contract ends he'll be 34. Exactly how much the former AC Milan and Real Madrid player will have left in the tank by that point is unclear. But the club has clearly seen enough positive signs to keep him in the fold at least until then.
With the new contract taken care of Huntelaar can now focus on Schalke's continued efforts in the Champions League and the battle to ensure they remain in the marquee tournament next term.
