USA vs. Brazil Women's Soccer: Date, Start Time, Live Stream and Preview

Rory MarsdenDec 20, 2014

USA will be looking to oust hosts Brazil when the two sides face off for the final of the International Tournament of Brasilia on Sunday at the Mane Garrincha Stadium.

Team USA beat Argentina 7-0 in their final round-robin group match which, paired with Brazil's victory over China PR, sent Jill Ellis' side through to the showpiece match behind the hosts.

The US struggled in the four-team competition early on, drawing with China PR and losing 3-2 to Brazil, hence why they needed a helping hand to make the final, but they now have the chance to gain revenge on the in-form hosts.

BRASILIA, BRAZIL - DECEMBER 10: Marta (R) and Andressa of Brazil celebrate the victory against Argentina during a match between Brazil and Argentina as part of International Women's Football Tournament of Brasilia at Mane Garrincha Stadium on December 10

For the second time in eight days, Brazil and the USA will go head to head in Brasilia, but this time the stakes are even higher with tournament victory on the line.

Both sides will have learned from Brazil's 3-2 victory last Sunday, inspired by a Marta hat-trick which saw the hosts come back from two goals down.

The legendary Brazilian forward is one of the all-time greats and the US defence will need to be better organised if they are to keep her quiet on Sunday.

While the USA come into the final on the back of their 7-0 drubbing of Argentina, that is their only win of the tournament so far, while Brazil have had three wins including their most recent 4-1 victory over a China PR side who held Ellis' side to a draw.

However, the USWNT have stacks of quality in their side and will be looking to respond to their recent inconsistent form as well as their recent ousting from the world No. 1 spot by Germany, per The Equalizer's Jeff Kassouf:

As Kassouf indicates, the loss of the top spot in the world rankings should galvanise the USA and give them another reason to put on a show on Sunday.

They certainly have goalscorers at their disposal, Christen Press fresh from scoring four against Argentina, added to by Carli Lloyd's hat-trick, her eighth, ninth and 10th goals in the last seven matches for the national side.

At the back, Hope Solo will no doubt be back between the posts for the final, Boston Breakers' Alyssa Naeher having made her debut for the Argentina game, per US forward Abby Wambach:

Skipper Christie Rampone will also likely return to the starting team and should be a key influence in defence as the USA attempt to quell Brazil's fine attack.

US Soccer WNT provides the team for last week's match against Brazil, but whether head coach Ellis will stick with the same 11 again remains to be seen:

Brazil have the tournament form and home advantage in their favour for Sunday's match and will be buoyed by the fact that they know they can beat this US team.

It is sure to be another tight and entertaining encounter between two of the top sides in the world and a fitting final for what has been an intriguing tournament.

A final victory would be a fantastic way to end the year, and it will likely all come down to which side can be the most clinical in front of goal.
