Roberto Soldado 'Ashamed' When Tottenham Hotspur Fans Sing His Name

Mark PattersonDec 20, 2014

Roberto Soldado has admitted that hearing Tottenham fans sing his name is hard to take when he knows he has underperformed at White Hart Lane.

The Spanish striker's refreshingly honest take on his time at the club shows self-awareness—and possibly also explains why fans have been so supportive of him.

He arrived in a £26 million deal in the summer of 2013 but has never hit the heights he managed at previous clubs such as Valencia.

In quotes from the Daily Mail, Soldado says:

"

From the first minute I’m involved, even before I’ve done anything, the fans show they believe in me, and I feel ashamed at not being able to satisfy them. It’s hard when they sing.

I hear them chanting my name and if I miss a chance, I feel bad. I can’t thank them enough. I just hope I can reach the level they expect and take advantage of the great players around me.

If only I knew that little something that’s missing for me to find my form, really show my game and for the goals to start flowing. I am reassured, though, because the manager (Pochettino) is giving me more minutes on the pitch.

"

With Spurs' striking options limited, Soldado still has a chance to redeem himself, starting with the club's home fixture against Burnley on Saturday.
