7. Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals
1 of 7
Previous ranking: Unranked
By the numbers: 15-7-5 record, .920 save percentage, 2.24 goals-against average, two shutouts
Bottom line: Braden Holtby has been one of the hottest goaltenders in recent weeks with wins in seven of nine games and the two losses coming in overtime. Thanks in large part to his play, the Washington Capitals are in the thick of the playoff hunt in the Eastern Conference.
6. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings
2 of 7
Previous ranking: Third
By the numbers: 14-8-6 record, .921 save percentage, 2.35 goals-against average, three shutouts
Bottom line: Wins are proving somewhat difficult for Jonathan Quick to come by, but his play has been one of the biggest reasons the Los Angeles Kings are still clinging to a playoff position. He's lost the second-most overtime/shootout decisions this season while facing the second-most shots. He's hands-down the Kings' MVP.
5. Frederik Andersen, Anaheim Ducks
3 of 7
Previous ranking: Unranked (Honorable Mention)
By the numbers: 19-5-4 record, .914 save percentage, 2.39 goals-against average, one shutout
Bottom line: Frederik Andersen has climbed back up into the top group of considerations with nine wins in his past 10 games. The Anaheim Ducks have the NHL's best record thanks in a big way to the consistent play of the goaltender.
4. Jaroslav Halak, New York Islanders
4 of 7
Previous ranking: Fifth
By the numbers: 18-6-0 record, .919 save percentage, 2.24 goals-against average, three shutouts
Bottom line: Jaroslav Halak won 11 straight games and has earned victories in 15 of 17 contests. His GAA is eighth best in the league, and his save percentage is in the top 15. He's provided a stable presence between the pipes to help the New York Islanders to the second spot in the Eastern Conference with the fourth-most points in the league.
3. Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens
5 of 7
Previous ranking: Fourth
By the numbers: 18-9-1 record, .924 save percentage, 2.27 goals-against average, two shutouts
Bottom line: Carey Price's overall numbers are steadily improving. He's played the third-most minutes in the league, has the third-most victories and while his numbers suffer in defeats—with opponents scoring four or more against him in five of his nine regulation losses—he has allowed five goals against in his last four wins.
2. Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators
6 of 7
Previous ranking: First
By the numbers: 22-6-1 record, .934 save percentage, 1.84 goals-against average, three shutouts
Bottom line: No goaltender has more wins at the moment, and Pekka Rinne's save percentage and GAA are both third best in the league. He and the top 'tender on this list are in a tight race, and while Rinne has a marginally better GAA, the other guy has more points per start and gets the slight edge.
1. Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins
7 of 7
Previous ranking: Second
By the numbers: 19-4-3 record, .932 save percentage, 2.00 goals-against average, six shutouts
Bottom line: Marc-Andre Fleury has the second-most wins, is tops in shutouts and his save percentage is fourth best in the NHL at the moment. He's in a tight race with Rinne, who has similar numbers, but he pulls ahead because of his stellar December. Fleury hasn't lost a game in regulation in the month and is the current third star of the week.
