Detroit Lions: Just Painful to Watch

Ben WagnerAug 4, 2009

What's a Detroit Lions fan supposed to do after watching a historical season? They should prepare to watch another historical one.

No, I do not mean the Lions will go 0-16 again. How could they, when they have the power of the Schwartz!

Realistically, the Lions will be forever remembered as the only team to go 0-16, or at least the first. The only way for them to get that monkey off their back is to come back the very next season and simply win.

Now, by no means am I predicting or claiming a Detroit Lions playoff team. In fact, the word playoff paired next to the Detroit Lions just makes me dizzy. I am merely unlocking the door of hope for the Lions. All they have to do is open it.

They have their head on straight now, or let’s hope, with Coach Jim Schwartz and his staff. A coach that has the "winning mentality" is so key. Might I remark, he is one of Bill Belichick's golden children, so he has the right roots.

Although the Lions upgraded on defense with the signings of Larry Foote, Julian Peterson, and others, they went from absolutely bad to absolutely old. This isn't necessarily a bad addition. They younger players will benefit from it, which will be beneficial in the long run.

Who knows where the Lions will end up in the NFC North. Honestly, each team in the division has their holes. The Lions could easily finish first, or maybe I am dreaming. The division is tough, but no where near other divisions like the NFC East or AFC East.

I shall dissect the depth chart and other aspects once the preseason gets going for them on Aug. 15. May the Schwartz be with you.
