Though Romo lost his closer job in 2014 after an up-and-down season in that regard, he still finished 6-4 with with a 3.72 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 23 saves and 59 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched. He pitched seven postseason innings for the team, finishing 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and seven strikeouts.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle shared his thoughts on the move:
The 2013 All-Star and seven-year veteran has played a role in all three of the team's World Series titles in the past five seasons, so it's hardly surprising that both he and the club wanted to ensure he was able to stay in San Francisco.
Romo should continue to be a key aspect of a solid pitching staff that seems to save its very best for October every season. His track record in the postseason alone made him a wise reinvestment for the club.
