Jason Kipnis Injury: Updates on Indians Star's Finger and Recovery

Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis suffered a finger injury during offseason workouts that required surgery on Tuesday. It's not expected to impact his status for Opening Day 2015.

The team made the announcement:

Cleveland also noted his expected availability, although it didn't provide an exact timetable for a full recovery:

After making steady progress during each of his first three seasons in the majors, Kipnis took a major step in the wrong direction in 2014. His on-base percentage plummeted more than 50 points from the previous year and he hit a career-low six home runs.

The Indians just have to hope he doesn't suffer any setbacks during his injury rehab and can return to form as a top offensive player at the position in 2015.
