Liverpool Transfer News: Petr Cech Loan Tempts Blues, Alexandre Lacazette Latest

Tom SunderlandDec 17, 2014

Liverpool have received a boost after hearing Chelsea may be open to the idea of loaning them Petr Cech's talents this winter, but the Reds have met a roadblock in their pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette.

David Maddock of the Mirror writes that Jose Mourinho no longer sees Brendan Rodgers' side as a title threat and would be willing to let Cech leave for Anfield in the hope it would see Liverpool take points from the Blues' real rivals.

Brad Jones has taken the No. 1 jersey on Merseyside after 2013 signing Simon Mignolet saw his standards fall this year, but Rodgers is seeking a more elite name to start in between the posts.

Following injury to Thibaut Courtois, Cech made his first Premier League start of the season in the 2-0 win over Hull City this past weekend. The official Chelsea Twitter account quotes the veteran commending his squad heading into the latter half of the campaign:

Chelsea previously saw success in lending out their assets after Romelu Lukaku inflicted damage on the Premier League big guns during his loan stint with Everton last season.

However, the Reds aren't the only team interested in Cech, with David Amoyal of GianlucaDiMarzio.com revealing that Roma are in the hunt for his talents, too:

A temporary deal may work out best for all parties involved as Chelsea would undoubtedly be eager to retain the services of a No. 2 as talented as Cech, while Courtois still remains the primary option in goal.

Rodgers may be less hopeful of landing Lyon's Lacazette, however, after the French outfit's president, Jean-Michel Aulas, told French broadcaster RMC (h/t Daily Star's Alex Harris):

"

The difference between now and Benzema’s time is that we will soon have a big stadium to ensure revenue. There won’t be such a need to sell players. Lacazette won’t go anywhere. We have enough money so that we can keep him.

With the financial institution in place to resist the temptations of Europe's giants, Lyon are in a stronger position than ever to keep hold of their esteemed assets.

Lacazette has been in fine scoring fashion for the club as they go about their bid to return to European competition, OptaJean detailing the Frenchman's recent accolades in Ligue 1:

It's well-founded that Rodgers is in the hunt for offensive recruits following Mario Balotelli's failure to fill the void left by an injured Daniel Sturridge, resulting in Raheem Sterling's recent promotion to the lead striker role.

Lyon have proved a difficult party to convince in selling their top players in the past, retaining the likes of Maxime Gonalons and Clement Grenier despite huge interest in their services over recent years.

Bleacher Report's Ryan Bailey was recently joined by ex-United States international Janusz Michallik to discuss the kind of signings that would make for Liverpool's dream transfer window:

Liverpool currently sit 11th in the Premier League table and are under pressure to improve their ranks this winter, but the return of Sturridge may be enough to cure their ails up front.

Rodgers may not be able to rely upon the fitness of his missed front man, but it appears the efforts to revamp his attack will ultimately reach a dead end in any pursuit of Lacazette.
