Borland Officially Hits IR

Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle provides an update on Borland's status:
Borland's Season May be Over
Tuesday, Dec. 16
The hits keep on coming for the San Francisco 49ers this season. After having their playoff hopes ended in a 17-7 loss at Seattle in Week 15, star rookie linebacker Chris Borland suffered an ankle injury that may end his season.
According to 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, via Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee, it's not likely Borland will be able to play in the final two games:
Borland, a third-round selection in 2014 out of Wisconsin, quickly turned into one of the steals of last year's draft. He didn't get into the starting lineup until Week 7 but leads the team with 107 total tackles and 11 tackles for loss.
The 49ers have been decimated by injuries at the linebacker position all season. NaVorro Bowman won't play a snap as he is still recovering from the knee injury suffered against Seattle in the NFC Championship Game last January. Patrick Willis hasn't played since Week 6 against St. Louis when he suffered a toe injury.
Borland's injury is an unfortunate end to what has been a forgettable season in San Francisco, even though there are still two games left to play.
