7 Great Holiday Gifts Every Golfer Will Want

Mike DudurichDec 17, 2014

It's the holiday season, the season of giving.

And in this, I'm playing the role of giver and my gift to you (all) is what I believe to be seven really nice gifts that every golfer would want.

Here are a few words that might give you some hints as to what is on the list: Georgia, Swilcan, Arnie and clubs.

That's it for hints.

Check out the list and enjoy the season.

A Round at Augusta National Golf Club

The pictures we see each April, the ones that show off emerald green fairways and putting surfaces and the azaleas and magnolias, don't do the place justice.

Stepping onto the hallowed grounds just to watch the Masters is a spectacular enough experience. Can you imagine getting a phone call asking you to join some well-placed individual to play there?

Going into the locker room, clubhouse and then making that walk across the lawn out to the first tee?

Even veteran professionals get weak in the knees on the first tee at Augusta and when the recreational player puts his peg in the ground there, it has to be mind-boggling.

And then the challenge of the diabolical greens await, Amen Corner, the 16th and then the long uphill 18th.

Happy Holidays if you find that one under your tree!

A Trip to Scotland to Play the Old Course at St. Andrews

It is, after all, the birthplace of golf. And if you wake up on Christmas morning and arrangements for a trip to St. Andrews in Scotland is under your tree, you are one lucky golfer.

Sure, there are the headaches of getting there, driving on the wrong side of the road and everything else that goes along with a trip. But there's also a chance to play the oldest and most historic course in the world.

It may not be the most beautiful course in the world. There are no lakes or ponds to play over or around, But it is where golf began and where some of the most historic major championships have been contested. The Open Championship will be held there for the 29th time in July.

If you're a golf history buff and get a chance to play there, you have to do it.

Tee It Up with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer

There will never be two players who will do so much for golf as Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer have.
There will never be two players who will do so much for golf as Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer have.

The opportunity to play in a threesome with golf's greatest player and the man who is most responsible for making golf the game it is today would be hard to top as a holiday gift.

And while we're talking about these whimsical gifts, let's have this three-ball take place when Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer were in their primes.

Nicklaus hitting those high fades off the tee and easily launching 1- and 2-irons high into the air, unlike 95 percent of his competitors at the time. Palmer, on the other hand, preferred low draws, piercing through the air and running when they hit the ground.

But even more special? Getting to walk 18 holes with the two legends and just listening to them talk.

A Guarantee You'll Play Your Best Round Ever in 2015

One of these guys could be you, heading down the fairway to your best round ever.
One of these guys could be you, heading down the fairway to your best round ever.

I'll bet there are a lot of wives who would pay big money for this gift.

Guaranteeing her man his best round ever would end a lot of postgame grumbling and mumbling golfers do concerning shots that got away, putts that didn't go in, etc.

The guarantee would promise that upon redemption of his best-ever certificate, his swing would be better than it ever had been, his putting would be awesome and for that 18 holes, it would be nothing but pars, birdies and smiles.

The only bad part of this gift would be that it would only be good for 18 holes.

A Bag of Custom-Made Clubs Under Your Tree on Christmas Morning

Your custom-fitted set of clubs would be set up just like the pros.
Your custom-fitted set of clubs would be set up just like the pros.

You've always been one of those players who has bought golf clubs right off the rack.

You've shown no interest in going through a club-fitting, hearing and seeing what professionals learn about your swing and what clubs might work best for you.

But you also know there are times you don't get the results you think you should when you compare your game to those of your buddies.

But through the magic of the holiday season, a custom fit stands next to your tree on Christmas morning. And they and you lived happily ever after.

Experiencing the Awe-Inspiring Monterrey Peninsula and a Round at Pebble Beach

Unlike Augusta National and St. Andrews where water plays little or no factor in the proceedings, water plays a major factor at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

If it's not in play directly, it indirectly works on your mind as you make your way through the first 10 holes. The views are spectacular and can be very distracting to your game if you're not careful. The seventh through the 10th holes might be the most spectacular anywhere.

And if that's not enough, wildlife appears out of nowhere, working more and more against your concentration level.

Playing a round of golf at Pebble Beach would rank very, very highly on the list of best gifts you've ever gotten.

A Day with Family and Friends

Guys just out enjoying the day, orange ball and all.

While the first six gifts are all on the wishful side of reality, the seventh and final gift is not only very much in your reach but one that should be made to happen.

This one involves you and three of your family members or friends, on a bright sunny day, teeing it up at your favorite course. With light breezes and a brilliant blue sky above, you and your group have the best time you've ever had on a golf course, regardless of the scores of the day.

Memories are made of days like these and the folks that get those days above all others.
