Isaac Nauta Commits to Florida State: What 2016 4-Star TE Brings to Seminoles

Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles scored another huge victory on the recruiting trail on Monday when 2016 4-star tight end Isaac Nauta announced his commitment to FSU.

The 6’5”, 240-pounder—who has racked up more than 30 offers—selected FSU over Georgia, Ole Miss and South Carolina, among others.

The Georgia product is rated as the nation’s top tight end prospect in the 2016 class.

But what will he bring to the Seminoles' offensive attack?

Apparently, he’s enough of a weapon that tight ends coach Tim Brewster identified Nauta as his primary target during his visit to Tallahassee for Fisher’s summer camp.

“He says that I am his guy,” Nauta told Chris Nee of Noles247 (subscription required) on Brewster’s message to him. “He wants me there really bad. He thinks that we fit each other perfectly. He said that me and him are mirrors of each other. So he definitely wants me to say the least.”

One of the biggest holes for Florida State to fill in the offseason will be at tight end, where the ‘Noles will have to replace outgoing senior and Mackey Award winner Nick O’Leary.

Even though Nauta—who plans to enroll early—won’t arrive on campus until January of 2016, Fisher and his staff took a huge step in finding a long-term solution to that position with the addition of Nauta.

In fact, O’Leary’s success during his career is part of what sold Nauta on the ‘Noles.

“I like what they do with their tight ends, Nick O’Leary just won the Mackey Award, for me picking a school is all about the people I am going to be around, I click well at Florida State guys, some of the guys they have redshirted,” Nauta told Rusty Mansell of Dawgs247 (subscription required) earlier this month. “With me being a early graduate I could come in there and already have some good relationships, that is what I like about Florida State.”

Nauta has the size and athleticism to be a matchup nightmare in Fisher’s offense, similar to what O’Leary has been able to do in recent years.

He’s also a physical blocker who brings a nastiness to the position in the ground game.

Nauta will join 5-star quarterback Malik Henry and 4-star receiver Keith Gavin as the ‘Noles' three commitments on offense in the 2016 class—which has six pledges overall.

Considering the caliber of skill players that Fisher is loading up on in Tallahassee, adding a dynamic receiving threat at tight end such as Nauta is key to maintaining the potency with which the ‘Noles offense has operated in the last two seasons.
