Andrew Brandt of ESPN reported on a mention of Roger Goodell in Peterson's suit:
Jason Cole of Bleacher Report weighed in on what he was hearing in regards to Peterson's goals with the motion:
Along with the announcement from the NFLPA, a conversation with NFL executive vice president of operations Troy Vincent has surfaced. The discussion, reportedly from Nov. 12, features Vincent promising Peterson a two-game suspension for his actions.
ABC News released audio of the conversation between the two sides:
During the conversation, Vincent is heard telling Peterson he will only serve the remainder of what was initially a two-game suspension. Yahoo Sports' Jay Busbee transcribed a portion of the conversation:
""Two additional games, not time served?" Peterson asks on the recording.
"No, no, no," Vincent replies. "It's just the one this weekend. So really, it's just next week and you ... you're rolling. You're back." ...
... "So, two games?" Peterson asks at another point.
"Yeah," Vincent replies, "but you cannot ... you've got to go through the process."
"
According to Rob Maaddi of The Associated Press, Peterson also told Vincent that he wanted Goodell to consider that he has lost $4 million in endorsements and missed over half the season.
Peterson, 29, was previously placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List on Sept. 18 stemming from child abuse charges earlier this year. Following that designation, the league suspended Peterson for the remainder of the 2014 season.
The NFLPA filed an appeal for his reinstatement but lost the suspension appeal earlier this month. Peterson has made it clear what he plans for his future, via USA Today's Tom Pelissero:
"I would love to go back and play in Minnesota to get a feel and just see if my family still feels comfortable there. But if there's word out that hey, they might release me, then so be it. I would feel good knowing that I've given everything I had in me.
"
With a suit now filed, Peterson's future in the NFL, particularly this season, is still in question. After several attempts to get Peterson back on the field, the NFLPA will work yet again to get one of the best running backs in the league back in the fold.
The future already looks unclear for Peterson, who told ESPN.com's Ben Goessling that he has even considered retiring from the NFL entirely. He has since said he will return to the field, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, but it's clear the situation has taken a toll on the running back.
