Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Griffin immediately took over for the Redskins and was on fire. The 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year completed his first six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown to a wide-open Chris Thompson.
Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan noted how effective Griffin was on the drive:
Following that drive, Griffin would not throw another touchdown pass on the day. He did, however, finish with a decent 236 passing yards and an additional 46 rushing yards as his mobility seemed to return throughout the game.
He also nearly had a rushing touchdown, but lost control of the ball prematurely ahead of the goal line. Liz Clarke of The Washington Post notes the play and subsequent reaction after Griffin's run:
It has been a difficult season for the former savior in Washington. Griffin missed time after suffering a dislocated ankle and struggled when he returned before being benched in favor of McCoy.
Despite the previous struggles, Griffin looked like an improved signal-caller early on Sunday, as Rich Tandler of CSN notes:
Brad Evans of Yahoo! also passed along his thoughts on Griffin:
Griffin might be back in the good graces of Jay Gruden if he continues his strong play. Then again, some of that might rely on the health of McCoy if the starter returns to full health prior to Week 16.
Going against the Philadelphia Eagles next Saturday, Griffin might be a spot starter for extremely desperate fantasy owners. In place of quarterbacks with difficult matchups or overall struggles, some owners might want to watch how the situation unfolds.
However, this late in the season might not be the time to tinker with lineups. Most owners will look to ride their horse at quarterback, so Griffin's success is coming a little too late for owners to truly trust him—especially if a championship is on the line next week.
