Real Madrid's Pepe the Only Regular La Liga Centre-Back Without a Booking

Sean FayDec 14, 2014

If you were told that only one of the 40 regular La Liga centre-backs has not been booked this season, the last person you might think to guess is Real Madrid's Pepe

However, the so-called bad boy of Spanish football seems to have cleaned up his act completely and hasn't received a single yellow card all season.

What's more, he has only committed five fouls, despite being a near ever-present in the team.

The stats were revealed by Marca in an article entitled "Mr Clean," and it noted that his partner in Real's defence, Sergio Ramos, had committed 25 fouls and received five yellow cards.

The newspaper also looked at how Pepe compared to the central defenders at Real's two main rivals, Barcelona and Atletico:

"

To understand how well Pepe is doing, with his five fouls and zero yellow cards, it is interesting to compare him to other centre-backs at leading Spanish clubs: Javier Mascherano has committed eight fouls and has seen yellow and red once apiece; Gerard Piqué has conceded seven fouls and has four yellow cards; Diego Godín has given away eight fouls and picked up three yellows; while Miranda has fouled seven times and seen four yellows.

"

Pepe was sent-off for the 12th time in his career during the World Cup, but he has already generated some positive headlines this week, when AS revealed he was donating 9,000 kg of food to poor Madrid families this Christmas.
