Completing big hits and tackles has become a delicate art at all levels of football. Instead of simply launching themselves at an opponent, defenders must be more precise when making a play to avoid drawing a penalty.

After all, laying down a textbook tackle to level an opponent often serves as a rare highlight for the impressive skills of defenders.

Brody Hoying

Troy Polamalu, eat your heart out. He's got nothing on Brody Hoying from Coldwater Varsity in Ohio. You have to watch this highlight carefully, as it happens quite quickly. 

Hoying times the snap perfectly, sails acrobatically over the line and crunches the quarterback for a turnover on downs. The bungled snap didn't help the offense any, either. 

Michael Kraft

This hard-nosed wide receiver takes a mean lick over the middle and actually hangs on. More importantly, he pops up seemingly unharmed. He must have expected to be hit extremely hard on the play, with Michael Kraft representing Brick Township in New Jersey.

Austin Kim

A swing pass can be a terrible idea, especially if Austin Kim from North Gwinnett High in Georgia is playing safety. He diagnoses the play and totally blows it up for a loss of yards. Maybe just delete that play out of the playbook altogether.

Aric Shafer

Uh-oh, someone forgot to block Aric Shafer.

The outside linebacker barged into the backfield before the play had any chance of developing, and he clobbered the running back with a powerful wrap-up tackle. That hit set the bar for his teammates at Tippecanoe Valley Varsity in Akron, Indiana.
