Brock Lesnar and Dana White: Call out Fedor

Bleacher ReportAug 3, 2009

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has reached a point where they call the shots in Mixed Martial Arts. After listening to Dana White promise so much from his league, he has forgotten one big piece missing from any successful promotion: swagger.

The UFC is the only true game in town. Just look at what they’ve bought or seen fold around them. The two most outspoken characters in the UFC must call out their biggest target. It’s time to call out Fedor.

Fedor Emelianenko, is considered the best heavyweight fighter in the world. The problem is that he has not signed to fight in the most prestigious league. Fedor has signed with Strikeforce, a minor league promotion; after all there is only one major league.

After UFC 100 Brock Lesnar said some very immature things. Maybe that stuff worked in the WWE, but it didn’t fly in Dana White’s UFC.

My questions is, why not? When did Dana White become Mr. Right?

Does he not realize that the UFC will benefit from bad guys and good guys fighting? Boxing has had this formula forever; the whole sport is built around trash talking. Professional wrestling is the same as well. It is better to have a guy that half the world hates and the other half loves.

Brock Lesnar needs more time in the public eye to say what many people are starting to wonder. If Fedor is so good, why hasn’t he taken on Brock? They are nearly the same age and Brock is less experienced. Why not fight him?

Why hide in the minor leagues? I don’t recall John Elway playing in the Arena League to pad his stats. If Dana White would allow his fighters to talk, you’ll see a Lesnar and Fedor fight, possibly three.

The truth about promotions such as the UFC, is that everybody is in it to make money. Fighting for free would be ridiculous, but there are those fighters who are also there to represent themselves.

Brock Lesnar is one who simply is there to showcase his talent. Pay him or not, he doesn’t need it. He wants to show you that he is the best. Fighting is just another way for Lesnar to showcase his talents.

So why can’t Dana White put his trust in Brock? The answer to that is simple; White acts as a purist to this sport. His actions have been successful, but like all things, change must occur. White remembers the old days that nearly bankrupted this company. He has worked wonders to turn “human cockfighting” into a legitimate business.

But the time for change has come, the reason people don’t like the UFC as much is simply because all of these guys are put on too much of a tight leash. Where are the characters? Why must these guys show so much love after a fight?

It’s a fight! Guys are supposed to hate each other, that is why you’re punching and choking one another!

Fedor, I’m calling you out, as I’m calling out Dana White and Brock Lesnar. All of you need this fight to happen. The UFC needs to prove it has the best talent. Fedor needs to show that he will fight the best the sport has to offer. Brock has to prove that he is not a fluke.

So in the words of Big John McCarthy, “Let’s Get It On!”
