WWE TLC 2014: Handicapping Most Likely Swerves at PPV

Sharon GlencrossDec 13, 2014

Don’t be too surprised if WWE’s TLC pay-per-view is packed full of swerves, turns and shock returns.

Really, there’s the potential for a great deal of things to go down on Sunday as WWE closes out the year and heads into 2015. No doubt Vince McMahon and his writers have the opportunity to churn out a ton of surprises in Cleveland, but which ones are most likely to come to fruition? Well, let’s have a look.

Randy Orton Returns and Helps John Cena

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Odds: 70 percent

F4Wonline (via Wrestlezone) noted recently that Orton's returning to WWE television at TLC to aid John Cena in his match against Seth Rollins was a decent possibility.

It makes sense in the storylines: Rollins was the ringleader of the vicious beatdown on The Viper on the Nov. 3 edition of Raw. Orton will almost certainly want his revenge on the former Shield member, and there’s no better way to achieve this than to cost Rollins the victory.

Still, after the main events of Hell in a Cell and Survivor Series—both of which were full of interference and outside shenanigans—WWE may elect to script a (gasp!) relatively straightforward match with a clean finish.

Brie Bella Turns on Her Sister

Odds: 10 percent

OK, so this is admittedly a long shot, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility to think that Brie Bella could turn on her sister Nikki and cost her the Divas Championship in her bout against AJ Lee.

Even by wrestling standards, it does seem rather absurd how easily and quickly Brie forgave her sibling for months and months of emotional and verbal abuse.

It’s entirely possible WWE’s bookers are being a lot smarter than most give them credit for—perhaps Brie has just been luring her evil sister into a false sense of security these past few weeks in preparation for some major and humiliating payback. It would make a pleasing conclusion to what has been an otherwise wholly illogical storyline.

But, really, we might be expecting too much from the writers on this one.

Naomi Turns on The Usos and Joins The Miz and Mizdow

Odds: 30 percent

The Miz has been hanging around Naomi a lot recently, flirting outrageously with the Total Divas star and promising to aid her in the quest to become a big Hollywood star. Naomi seems very open to the possibility and grateful for his help.

This is almost certainly an attempt from The Awesome One to infuriate her husband Jimmy before they clash at TLC for the tag team titles and take his mind off wrestling—and, as evidenced by Jimmy's losing his cool on television more than once, it’s working.

Naomi's deciding to walk out on her marriage and get with The Miz is rather unlikely—but certainly not impossible.

Hey, WWE has booked the “traitorous female turning on her man” angle numerous times before, most notably with Lita and Trish Stratus. It would make for a nice twist and help keep the promising Usos vs. Miz/Mizdow feud going for a little longer, at least.
