WWE TLC 2014 Matches: Best Possible Finish for Each Contest

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 13, 2014

Sunday's Tables, Ladders and Chairs...and Stairs pay-per-view was built over the span of three weeks into a show that looks like it will be worth seeing.

Every feud has some kind of personal angle to it—even the ones that involve titles. It's rare that WWE takes the time to schedule nine matches that all have storylines, but that is what we have for the final PPV of 2014.

Seth Rollins and John Cena will likely close the show, but the matchup that will probably steal the spotlight is the TLC match between Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt.

Other than the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, every title will be on the line this Sunday. Cena will also be fighting to keep his spot as No. 1 contender to Brock Lesnar.

This slideshow will look at each match and outline who the best option is to have their hand raised.

The New Day vs. Gold and Stardust

1 of 9

WWE's newest stable will have its first PPV match on Sunday against one of the best tag teams to come along in years, Gold and Stardust.

This new stable had a few weeks worth of video packages and picked up a couple of wins, but it hasn't had that moment where we can definitively say whether or not it will succeed.

The best way to make The New Day look good is to give it a win over one of the few teams with established credibility. With a couple of title reigns and several show-stealing matches under their belts,  Goldust and Stardust are the perfect choice.

Taking a loss to this new group won't hurt the painted brothers very much. Until they break up, they will always be in the running for the championships.

The only way this works is if Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E can find a way to build on the chemistry they already have.

The New Day will win, but it probably won't be the last we see of these two teams going to war.

Rusev vs. Jack Swagger

2 of 9

After being successful in multiple feuds against some big names, Rusev found his way to the United States Championship.

One of Rusev's first feuds was against Jack Swagger. The fact that both men take pride in their countries was the driving force behind the storyline. In the end, Russia bested America.

Now, Swagger thinks he can defeat the Bulgarian Brute after losing to him decisively so many times before. It feels like a situation where WWE expects us to forget the numerous losses Swagger suffered just because his friend, Zeb Colter, has a broken leg.

The way WWE is building Rusev up as an unstoppable killing machine has been done the right way. It has taken its time putting him in matches with guys who are actually bigger than him, and he has come out looking impressive in multiple situations.

The only way this match can end is with another win for Rusev. There's always the possibility of Rusev being counted out or disqualified to keep his title reign intact, but he won't be losing the title this early into his reign.

Swagger will have a good showing, but Rusev will make him tap out again.

AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella (Divas Title Match)

3 of 9

AJ Lee will have one more chance to win the Divas Championship in a match against Nikki Bella.

Bella won the title in controversial fashion after her sister, Brie Bella, kissed Lee to distract her so Nikki could deliver a big elbow and a Rack Attack to pick up the win. It harkens back to when Lee seemingly cost Daniel Bryan a match with Sheamus due to a similarly timed kiss.

When Lee accepted the Divas of the Year award at the Slammys last Monday, it almost felt like she was giving a goodbye speech. If she is planning to leave the WWE to try something else or support CM Punk in his UFC career, there is no way she is winning the title this Sunday.

The mystery here is Brie. She helped her sister win the title because she was forced to, but she no longer has to follow her sister around. It seemed like the WWE just got lazy and decided to drop the storyline of them hating each other. But maybe there is a bigger plan in place.

Perhaps Brie is sticking around so she can cost Nikki the title and then finally get her revenge for the 30 days she had to serve as Nikki's assistant.

The best and most likely outcome is for Nikki to get a real win over Lee so she can prove she deserves to be champion. It's doubtful they will be able to match the quality of the match between Charlotte and Sasha Banks from NXT TakeOver: R Evolution, but Lee has the skills to help make Nikki look better than she is.

The Usos vs. Miz and Mizdow

4 of 9

Damien Mizdow and The Miz shocked a lot of people when they won the WWE Tag Team Championships a few weeks ago, but it ended up being the right call.

Miz and Mizdow are so over with the crowd that WWE had to pull the trigger before their gimmick ran its course. What the WWE has with this unique team is something special.

Miz is a great heel, but he wasn't doing much before he hired Mizdow as his stunt double. Once Mizdow got over with his hilarious antics, it became clear that they had caught lightning in a bottle.

How often do you see two guys who are on the same page but get totally different responses from the crowd? To see Mizdow cheered and Miz booed is all part of their presentation, and the WWE Universe plays into it every week.

It's too early for Miz and Mizdow to lose the titles, but the end of the match has to have a little controversy to keep the storyline going.

Either Miz or Mizdow needs to tag themselves in when their partner is about to win so they can steal the spotlight.

Ryback vs. Kane

5 of 9

Kane and Ryback will face each other for what feels like the 1,000th time in a Chairs match this Sunday.

It's a pretty basic feud that feels like it will end with Ryback having his hand raised so he can keep building his momentum.

Kane is a great talent, but the past few years has been all about using him to build up new talent. He hasn't had a significant singles win in a long time, and it will probably stay that way for awhile.

Ryback, on the other hand, has been on a roll since returning from an injury. The fans are behind him again, and he has shown real improvement inside the ring.

He may never be the main event player WWE wants him to be, but there is still hope for him. If he and Kane can make one of the dumber stipulations in WWE into an entertaining bout, it will go a long way.

Ryback should hit Shell Shocked from the middle turnbuckle onto a pile of chairs. It's the only way this match can have an exciting ending.

Erick Rowan vs. Big Show

6 of 9

If WWE was out to prove that it can have a stupider stipulation than a Chairs Match, it has definitely succeeded with the Stairs Match.

The steel steps are the most awkward weapon in WWE, and building a whole match around them feels like a half-hearted attempt to come up with something new.

The upside is that Erick Rowan is going to look really good when he beats Big Show. This mountain of a man has already proved that he can lift Big Show with relative ease, so seeing what these two come up with will be fun.

Rowan needs this win to get his singles run going. He went from being in a stable to immediately being in an elimination match at Survivor Series. We need to see more of what he can do by himself, and Big Show is the kind of wrestler who can make Rowan look like a star.

Rowan has to win with a display of power and possibly a bodyslam onto the steps.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Luke Harper (IC Title Match)

7 of 9

Luke Harper will defend his Intercontinental Championship in a Ladder Match against the man he beat for the title, Dolph Ziggler.

This match is made for guys like Ziggler, but Harper is going to surprise a lot of people by taking big risks and delivering the kind of performance he always brings to the table.

Ziggler is one of WWE's hottest commodities right now, but he shouldn't win the title. Luke Harper needs to retain to make him seem like a worthy champion.

In order for Ziggler to come out of this looking good, some of his rivals from Team Authority need to get involved and keep him from regaining the IC title.

The best way to end this match is to have someone hold Ziggler down while Harper climbs the ladder to get his belt. That way Ziggler doesn't lose clean and Harper gets to move on to a new feud.

John Cena vs. Seth Rollins (Tables Match)

8 of 9

John Cena will put his shot at Brock Lesnar's WWE Heavyweight Championship on the line in a Tables Match against Seth Rollins.

This is going to be one of the most brutal encounters of the night because Rollins is the kind of performer who will make sure the fans get the most bang for their buck.

What needs to happen here so everyone comes away with something to do at The Royal Rumble is Randy Orton needs to return to cost Rollins the match.

Rollins and Orton still need to settle their differences and Cena needs to keep his title shot. If Orton helps Cena secure the victory, everyone wins.

Rollins doesn't need this victory because he already has his guaranteed title shot, which he will probably cash in on Cena after he beats Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.

Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt (TLC Match)

9 of 9

The most intriguing storyline heading into Sunday is the one involving Ambrose and Wyatt. Their demented personalities complement each other very well, and the TLC Match will allow them to show off the crazier things they are willing to do.

The last match ended in a DQ when Ambrose used a steel chair on Wyatt. The stipulation in this match guarantees that someone will walk out with a definitive victory.

Both men would benefit from the win, but Wyatt seems like the better choice right now. Having him win in such a way that Ambrose has to be stretchered out would help drive the story for another month.

This kind of match will leave both men battered and bruised. But at the end of the night, Wyatt will be the one with his hand raised in victory.
