UFC on Fox 13 Results: Recapping the Fight Night Bonuses

Dan HiergesellDec 13, 2014

In an epic night chock full of free action ranging from knockouts to submissions, UFC on Fox 13 offered a little bit of everything on Saturday evening.

Capped off with an absolute war between heavyweight title contenders Junior dos Santos and Stipe Miocic, fans in attendance and millions watching around the world got more than they could ask for.

But some finishes and key matchups stood out more than the rest. Some combatants deserved to receive an always-pleasant Fight Night bonus.

Here are those aforementioned winners of some extra promotional cash and how their money-making efforts came to fruition, per UFC's Twitter account:

Fight of the Night: Dos Santos vs. Miocic

This was an easy choice.

For five straight rounds these two heavyweights battled each other to the brink of absolute exhaustion. And even though the judges scored the bout for JDS via unanimous decision, it was actually a lot closer.

Many people didn't think Miocic could stand and exchange with the former UFC champ, but he did just that.

With lunging right hooks out of breaks against the cage to penetrating lead rights in the center of the cage, the 32-year-old Ohioan landed the third-most strikes against Dos Santos in his UFC career (89).

As for Cigano, who was able to land some devastating power punches in the later rounds of the fight, his takedown defense and unflappable chin made this slugfest possible.

He didn't show much versatility on his feet, but with great boxing fueling performances like this, does it even matter?

Performance of the Night: Matt Mitrione

On Saturday night in Phoenix, Mitrione continued to showcase the knockout power that's going to make him a force to be reckoned with in 2015.

It took the former NFL player just one minute, 59 seconds into Round 1 to finish the tough Gabriel Gonzaga on the heels of a short left hook and some timely ground-and-pound.

The TKO is Mitrione's third straight first-round finish and his eighth overall in the UFC.

Meathead is truly starting to turn into a well-rounded fighter capable of competing at the highest level possible.

And despite being 36 years old, Mitrione's athleticism, quickness and innate ability to pounce on an opponent are evolving exponentially.

Performance of the Night: Ian Entwistle

In just his second UFC appearance, Entwistle overcame an early takedown by opponent Anthony Birchak and secured a memorable ankle lock.

The brutal submission left the hometown Birchak in pain as the Englishman officially captured his first promotional victory.

His performance was good enough to surpass Bryan Barberena's third-round TKO of Joe Ellenberger and John Moraga's third-round submission of Willie Gates.

All in all, UFC on Fox 13 was a great set of fights that offered consistent action on a free card that the UFC pegged as the best televised one ever.
