Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams: Live St. Louis Score and Analysis

Steven GerwelDec 11, 2014

The St. Louis Rams (6-8) fell to the Arizona Cardinals (11-3) in a defensive slugfest that ended with a score of 12-6.

Neither team was able to find the end zone, and Arizona was just fortunate enough to win the battle for field position, which secured more field-goal attempts as a result.

The St. Louis offense was rudderless throughout the game. The Rams scored just three points in the opening half, and the group failed to make a single first down in the first five drives of the second half.

The primary issue on offense was the stout run defense from Arizona. The lack of the run game forced St. Louis to become one-dimensional, and the pressure from the blitz-happy Cardinals made it impossible for Rams quarterback Shaun Hill to do anything through the air.

In the fourth quarter, when the Rams finally put something together and came within a foot of the end zone on third down, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer made to baffling decision to call a pass play. Of course, the play fell apart instantly, and the Rams threw away their only touchdown opportunity as a result.

The St. Louis defense, on the other hand, did an excellent job.

The Rams held Arizona to 12 points and didn't allow a single touchdown. The group was constantly on the field due to the inept offense, and the officials managed to neutralize the pass rush with numerous missed holding calls, but the group was able to overcome all of that and put forth a great effort.

The Rams will attempt to right the ship a week from now when they take on the New York Giants. Meanwhile, Arizona will attempt to take another step towards becoming the division champs by facing the Seattle Seahawks.

Thank you for following along, and be sure to stop by next week.
