Georgia Football: 5 Bulldogs Who Can Raise NFL Draft Status in the Belk Bowl

Brian JonesDec 11, 2014

The Belk Bowl means the 2014 season is coming to an end for the Georgia Bulldogs, and most of the seniors will never put on a set of shoulder pads ever again after the game on December 30.

For a few seniors, juniors and third-year sophomores, though, this is only the beginning.

The NFL will be the next step for some of the Bulldogs on the roster right now, and this game will be one of the final opportunities for them to impress NFL scouts in attendance.

The Bulldogs will not only be trying to earn their 10th win of the year, some will be looking to improve their draft status with a strong showing in the Belk Bowl.

Here are five players that can do just that.

OLB Jordan Jenkins

1 of 5

The linebackers have been the strength for the Bulldogs defense this year, but out of the four starting linebackers, Jordan Jenkins has received the least amount of attention.

Jenkins has improved each season since playing along with Jarvis Jones in 2012. He is third on the team in tackles (66), second on the team in tackles for loss (nine) and second in sacks (4.5).

The Belk Bowl will give Jenkins a great stage to showcase his talents. He has a great burst, great power and is very athletic. He could make his way to the third round of the draft when it’s all said and done.

ILB Ramik Wilson

2 of 5

Ramik Wilson is not having the season he did in 2013, but with 102 tackles, six tackles for loss and one sack, he's still having a good campaign.

Wilson has done a great job the last two years manning one of the inside linebacker spots. However, because of his power, he could be looked at as an outside linebacker in the NFL.

A big game for Wilson would show the scouts he’s ready to play at the next level. He has good speed and is very physical at the point of attack.

NFL scouts love linebackers that are agile and fast, two qualities that Wilson possesses. He could be an early third-round pick if everything goes well in Charlotte.

DE Ray Drew

3 of 5

Ray Drew is a very interesting prospect because he has a great frame, but the production has not been there consistently.

Drew was able to have his best season in 2013 when he posted six sacks. However, when defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt came into the mix, Drew was lost in the shuffle and his numbers went down.

The scouts will be interested in Drew because there is some untapped potential. If he is able to have a standout game in the Belk Bowl, he could play his way into the fourth or fifth round.

CB Damian Swann

4 of 5

One player that really thrived in Pruitt's scheme is Damian Swann, who is having his best season as a Bulldog.

The corner from Atlanta has 62 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and four fumble recoveries.

He struggled last season to make plays, but Pruitt put Swann in better positions to do so this year, and he has thrived as a result.

Swann should be a fourth- or fifth-round prospect if he can show the scouts what he’s been doing this season is no fluke.

QB Hutson Mason

5 of 5

Hutson Mason is not an elite quarterback on the college level. He was not named to the All-SEC team and there have been more than a few fans that have not been pleased with his play all season.

However, the reality is he has led the Bulldogs to nine wins, and he’s a guy who doesn’t make mistakes.

Mason is leading the conference in completion percentage and has thrown 20 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Since he’s familiar with Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s scheme, Mason should have no issues making plays against the Cardinals in the Belk Bowl. As a result, scouts may take a closer look at Mason, and he could possibly be a seventh-round pick.
