MLB Winter Meetings 2014: Live Coverage of Rule 5 Draft, Latest Rumors and Deals

The theme of this year’s winter meetings has been late-night deals, or at least it sure feels that way to those of us living on the East Coast.

The baseball world awoke Tuesday to learn that the Chicago White Sox had both agreed to sign David Robertson and traded for Jeff Samardzija, while Wednesday morning brought news of Jon Lester’s decision to sign with the Chicago Cubs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the overnight scene Wednesday (or Thursday morning) just hours after trading Dee Gordon and Dan Haren to the Miami Marlins as part of a seven-player swap, acquiring second baseman Howie Kendrick from the Los Angeles Angels and then agreeing to a four-year deal with free agent Brandon McCarthy.

Day 4 Done Deals

Thursday: Texas Rangers acquire LHP Ross Detwiler from the Washington Nationals for two TBD prospects, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Thursday: Minnesota Twins and free agent RHP Ervin Santana agree on a four-year, $54 million deal, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Thursday: Boston Red Sox agree to sign RHP Justin Masterson to a one-year, $9 million deal, according to Buster Olney of MLB.com.

Thursday: St. Louis Cardinals agree to sign 1B Mark Reynolds, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Thursday: Chicago White Sox acquire LHP Dan Jennings from the Miami Marlins for RHP Andre Rienzo, according to the Marlins.

Thursday: Kansas City Royals agree to sign DH Kendrys Morales to a two-year, $17 million contract, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Thursday: New York Mets agree to sign OF John Mayberry Jr. to a one-year, $1.45 million contract, tweets CBS' Sports Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Thursday: Miami Marlins acquire RHP Mat Latos from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for prospects RHP Anthony DeSclafini and C Chad Wallach, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, MLB.com’s Joe Frisario and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Thursday: Detroit Tigers acquire RHP Alfredo Simon from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for SS Eugenio Suarez and prospect RHP Jonathan Crawford, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Thursday: Detroit Tigers acquire OF Yoenis Cespedes, RHP Alex Wilson and LHP Gabe Speier from the Boston Red Sox for RHP Rick Porcello, according to CJ Nitkowski of FOX Sports. 

Thursday: San Diego Padres acquire OF Matt Kemp and C Tim Federowicz from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for C Yasmani Grandal, RHP Joe Wieland and RHP Zach Eflin, according to Dennis Lin and Kirk Kinney of the San Diego Union-Tribune. 

Wednesday Night: Los Angeles Angels acquire 2B/SS Josh Rutledge from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Jairo Diaz, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

Wednesday Night: The Los Angeles Dodgers are close to signing RHP Brandon McCarthy to a four-year, $48 million contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Wednesday Night: Los Angeles Dodgers acquire 2B Howie Kendrick from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for LHP Andrew Heaney, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. The Dodgers had acquired Heaney from the Marlins earlier in the day.
