MLB Preview: Aug. 3, 2009

With only nine games on tap for today, look for it to be a slow day.

Here are my winners for today.

To start thing off we will see the Kansas City Royals battle the Tampa Bay Rays. Zack Greinke is on the mound for the Royals. Greinke has not won a game since June 28 (0-3 during this five-game span).

Scott Kazmir finally got a win in his last start against the Yankees. Look for a low scoring game through seven and the Rays beat up on the Royals Bullpen for the win.   WP= G. Balfour LP= J. Cruz

Baltimore will be in Detroit trying to beat Justin Verlander and the Tigers. Verlander is 4-1 in his last five starts while Baltimore has Chris Tillman on the mound. Tillman will make his second Big league start.

Tigers win easily, Tillman will be a good pitcher in a couple of years so just hold on Orioles fans. WP= J. Verlander LP= Chris Tillman

Dan Haren and the Diamondbacks head to New York in battle to see who wants to still be in the Wild Card race. Nelson Figueroa makes his second start this year for the Mets. Figueroa will be on fire today giving the Mets the lead heading into the sixth.

The bullpen will come in and give the lead right back to the Diamondbacks. The Mets will prevail in the eighth scoring two and hold on in ninth for the win. WP= S. Green LP= J. Rauch.

San Francisco at Houston. Both teams need this game. Matt Cain is 3-0 in his last five starts. Mike Hampton is 2-3 in his last five starts. This will be the best game of the night. A very good pitcher's duel won by Cain and the Giants. WP= M. Cain LP= L. Hawkins.

Milwaukee will try their hand against the mighty Dodgers in LA. Clayton Kershaw is on the mound for the Dodgers. Kershaw is 3-0 in last five starts. Manny Para gets the call for the Brew crew. Para is 2-1 in last five starts for the Brewers. Both teams have struggles over the last 10 games going 4-6. Look for the Dodgers to come out swinging and take an early lead and never look back. Tampa Bay, Detroit, New York Mets, San Francisco and the Los Angeles Dodgers will all win today.
