Liverpool Transfer News: Lucas Moura Offered, Latest on Martin Odegaard and More

Nick AkermanDec 9, 2014

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly offered Lucas Moura to Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal, according to Bruce Archer of the Daily Express.

The 22-year-old's sale could aid the Ligue 1 club's battle against UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules and would offer Brendan Rodgers a much-needed speed boost in attack. With Daniel Sturridge injured and Raheem Sterling struggling for consistent form, Lucas' propensity to get the ball out of his feet and burst forward would be welcome at Anfield.

United were expected to compete for Lucas' signature before he signed with PSG, and the Brazilian has failed to push on as expected under Laurent Blanc's tutelage. He has only managed to hold down a first-team place in recent times, scoring six goals as the French club go in search of yet another domestic title.

He is the type of player Rodgers likes—versatile, creative and attack-minded—making him a viable target for the Reds. Liverpool missed out on Alexis Sanchez during the summer and desperately need an injection of pace to aid the sluggish centre-forward play currently offered by Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli.

Lucas isn't as energetic or defensively capable as Sanchez, but he could offer an effective counter-attacking outlet anywhere across the front line. Former Liverpool striker and B/R UK guest columnist Stan Collymore recently suggested a change in attack should be among the side's priorities in January:

Sharpening up in the middle will also tempt Rodgers, who is reportedly following the progress of Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

According to RMC (h/t talkSPORT), the Frenchman will only be offered £40,000 per week to remain at the Stade Velodrome, a number Rodgers is allegedly willing to double. Gignac has scored 12 in 17 this campaign and would offer a confident alternative to Liverpool's current crop of misfiring forwards.

As noted by football writer David Amoyal, Gignac's future will depend on that of Marseille's head coach, Marcelo Bielsa:

Liverpool recently caught a glimpse of Norwegian sensation Martin Odegaard when he trained at the club's Melwood complex. The 15-year-old "impressed," according to Kolo Toure, per Kristian Walsh of the Liverpool Echo, and he can sign his first senior contract on Dec. 17.

Jose Felix Diaz of Marca previously claimed the player is a "step away" from signing for Real Madrid, but confirmation is yet to be granted. Odegaard has reportedly caught the eye of Arsenal since, per Rob Draper of the Daily Mail, with the likes of United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona reportedly following his progress.

Rodgers decided to keep things tight-lipped when asked about the player, saying, "The world knows Martin is a talent. But he is not a Liverpool player, so I won't speak on him," as reported by talkSPORT. Odegaard will certainly be a coup for any side who manage to lure him away from Stromsgodset, as noted below:

Liverpool have failed to impress since freshening up during the summer. Rodgers has plenty of work to do before his squad returns to the confident, free-flowing shape we saw last season, perhaps starting with the addition of a world-class signing.
