NFL Scores Week 14: Results and Top Fantasy Football Stars for Sunday Games

R. Cory SmithDec 7, 2014

Oh, the fantasy football playoffs. A time when owners are either clinging to hopes of making the championship game or simply avoiding playing in what is typically known as the "Toilet Bowl."

Regardless of what bracket owners are in, huge weeks were needed from their studs and sleepers. Cam Newton had a massive game against the New Orleans Saints, while Le'Veon Bell throttled the Cincinnati Bengals with three total touchdowns.

Here's a look at the scores and top fantasy performers from Sunday's games.

Top Fantasy Performers from Week 14

Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

It has been a down year for Newton in fantasy. However, owners who trusted the Carolina Panthers quarterback in the playoffs were rewarded with a massive payoff.

In fact, Newton's 35.34 points in Week 14 were more than his last two games combined. Accounting for four total touchdowns, Newton had just 33.34 total points in the previous two games and looked much more mobile against New Orleans.

While it's been a strange season for Newton and the Panthers as a whole, the signal-caller has been at his best in December. Black & Blue Review points out his record in the final month of the season under Ron Rivera:

Some owners might still be wary of Newton's sudden success, but the schedule looks favorable coming up. Going against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15, Newton might see his name on this list again next Sunday.

Le'Veon Bell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers

A monster season for Bell continued on Sunday with what might amount to his best game of the year. Going against A.J. Green for the best fantasy player on the field in Cincinnati, Bell ravaged the Bengals on the ground and in the receiving game.

That type of performance is nothing new for Bell, who has accumulated over 200 yards from scrimmage in three straight games. Bell joins elite company with those numbers, as Dale Lolley of the Observer-Reporter notes:

Steelers media manager Dom Rinelli also passed along comments from Bell on the honor:

Coming off the sensational outing against Cincy, look for the consistency to continue in Week 15. Going against an Atlanta Falcons defense that allows 22.88 fantasy points per game to running backs, Bell will exploit that matchup again for owners.

A.J. Green, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

It has been an erratic season overall for Green, but the Bengals receiver had another fantastic outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On the heels of three straight double-digit-point games, Green had his best outing of the year with 224 receiving yards and a touchdown. The score came on an 81-yard pass from Andy Dalton, which would be enough to please fantasy owners alone.

Trey Wingo of ESPN noted how dynamic the receiver has been over the last several seasons:

Injuries have somewhat limited Green's production this season, but he looks like his old self recently for the Bengals offense. Getting a chance to exact some revenge against the Cleveland Browns in Week 15, expect Green to continue to roll in the playoffs.

Jared Cook, TE, St. Louis Rams

The tight end position has been as unpredictable as any this season. Jared Cook embodies that notion more than any for the St. Louis Rams.

Cook posted his first multi-touchdown game of the season against the Washington Redskins a week after not tallying a single catch in Week 13. His last score came against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10, which was also his last double-digit outing.

Going against the Cardinals again next week, Cook might be able to rekindle some more of that magic. But with Shaun Hill under center for the Rams, the offense looks nearly as interchangeable as the position Cook plays.
