Two Free MLB Baseball Picks Worth Betting On August 2nd 2009

NY Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox
NY – C.C. Sabbathia vs. Chicago – Mark Buehrle
First-pitch: 2:05 pm est.

Analysis: Most bettors know about Mark Buehrle and how he has been absolutely sensational in his last few games. Overall, Buehrle is 11 and 4 with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. Sabbathia, the most heralded free agent acquisition of 2009 going into this season, hasn’t lived up to expectations with a 10 and 7 record, a 3.83 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. C.C. is going to have his hands full, as will Mark, as both the Yankees and White Sox have some nice bats in their line-up. Buehrle could be a big favorite on the run line which means that the White Sox will be a big favorite to win. Even if they aren’t a big favorite, I see New York, and C.C., doing well in this game. Rarely, are the Yankees an underdog. I have to take a chance on them in this game because Sabbathia could be better than usual and Buehrle might “bounce” off of his earlier fantastic outings. I’m going with the Yankees in this game.

Houston Astros vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Houston – Roy Oswalt vs. St. Louis – Adam Wainwright
First-pitch: 2:15 pm est.

Analysis: The usually dominating Oswalt is having a bad year by his standards, but not a terrible year as he has gone 6 and 4 with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Oswalt has won 6 games in a row. That has to impress gamblers. Adam Wainwright has been dominating this year with a 12 and 6 record, a 2.80 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Wainwright was fantastic in his last game, a 10 to 0 Cardinals victory versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. If Wainwright is on, Oswalt probably doesn’t have much of a chance as the Astros don’t have the offense to keep up with the Cardinals, but Wainwright’s also going to be a huge favorite in this game. That leads me to the run line where I think profits can be made on this game. Giving up 1 ½ runs to Oswalt and the Astros might not be a great idea, but Wainwright is on fire right now. I think it’s worth a shot.
