OVER 10 Boston Red Sox/Baltimore Orioles:
For whatever reason, the Red Sox absolutely own the Orioles, especially in Baltimore. Today the Sox go for the weekend sweep and should get it in a game I expect to be high scoring.

Clay Bucholz, he of the no hitter against the Orioles a few years ago, is pitching pretty well, but is one of those “every other start” types. He’s only had three starts thus far in 2009, but he’s pitched great in two of them, and terrible in the other one. Looking back at his minor league efforts this year, it looks pretty much the same. Look for the O’s to put up a few today in Baltimore.

Baltimore counters with rookie Jason Berken (1-8, 6.21). Those numbers pretty much tell the story of Berken’s season. He’s not one of Baltimore’s top prospects and is likely to be out of a job sooner than later. He salvaged his rotation spot with a nice effort last Tuesday, but is still 0-3 with a 5.88 ERA in his last 5 starts.

UNDER 8.5 Arizona Diamondbacks/New York Mets:
Pretty good matchup today in the finale at Citi Field between the snakes and the Mets. Jon Garland opposes Mike Pelfrey in a game we expect to be low scoring.

Veteran Garland (5-10, 4.42) has been up and down in 2009, but has been pitching much better in his recent efforts. He’s 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA in his last 5 starts. Arizona doesn’t score a lot of runs so Garland will have to hold the Mets down if they want to win this ballgame.

Pelfrey (8-6, 4.72) is another who has battled inconsistency all season, but his last two starts have been outstanding, so ouor hope is that he’s turned it around for good. He’s thrown 13 1/3 innings and allowed just 3 runs in his last two starts. New York isn’t the best offensive team on earth either so Pelfrey will have to pitch well to keep this one close.
