Pellegrini Comments on Jovetic's Recovery

David Lynch of the Manchester Evening News has an update on Jovetic's status:

"

Manchester City's striker crisis is set to ease ahead of the weekend meeting with Burnley, with Jovetic in contention to start after taking a place on the bench against West Brom.

The Blues have played without a striker for the last three games, not that it has upset them.

[...]

Pellegrini said: 'Jovetic was on the bench today so maybe he will be fit for Sunday. We'll see [if he starts] tomorrow and have 48 hours to decide.

He was available to play today without any problem but it wasn't important for him to play and the pitch was difficult for a muscle injury.'

Jovetic Ruled Out of Everton Clash

Stevan Jovetic's injury-plagued season continued as Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the Montenegro international won't be available for the key Premier League fixture against Everton.

As shared by the club's official Twitter feed, he joins David Silva on the list of injured players:

The Daily Telegraph's Mark Ogden added the name of team captain and star defender Vincent Kompany to the list:

Jovetic was one of City's most impressive performers during pre-season, instilling hope that he could bounce back after his first season at the Etihad was derailed by a host of injuries.

Bleacher Report's Rob Pollard was disappointed when he once again went down early in September:

"

It would be a blow to Jovetic having played a part in all of City’s opening games this season after an injury-affected first season at the club. A combination of calf and hamstring injuries ruined last season for the Montenegrin, and it seemed like his fitness worries were finally behind him after an excellent preseason which saw him become a central part of Pellegrini’s first XI.

"

The 25-year-old has appeared in nine Premier League matches this season, scoring four goals and recording an assist, per WhoScored.com. However, minor injury concerns have held him back—to the point where Ted Knutson of StatsBomb had to make a note of it when discussing his performances:

When healthy, Jovetic forms an excellent partnership with Sergio Aguero. With the Citizens trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by six points, Pellegrini needs his dynamic duo healthy and clicking to keep the pressure on the Blues.

However, he won't be able to rely on Jovetic against Everton, and City must now hope the Montenegrin's persistent injury problems don't cost them.
