Murray Ties Cowboys Record with 11th 100-Yard Rushing Game

Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray tied a franchise record with his 11th 100-yard rushing game of the season in Thursday's 41-28 win over the Chicago Bears, per the Cowboys' official Twitter account.

The record is also held by all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith, who recorded 11 100-yard games in a 1995 season that saw him set still-standing Cowboys records for carries (377), rushing yards (1,773) and rushing touchdowns (25).

Unsurprisingly, Smith broke his own team records in all three cases, and he also set the NFL's single-season marks for rushing and total touchdowns, both of which have since been broken either three (rushing) or four (total) times.

With 320 carries for 1,609 yards and nine touchdowns through 13 games, Murray is on pace to finish the year with 394 carries for 1,977 yards and 11 touchdowns, which would put him well beyond Smith's franchise marks for carries and rushing yards.

Much like Smith during the Cowboys' early-1990s dynasty, the 26-year-old Murray benefits greatly from running behind a dominant offensive line.

Not to take away from either running back's accomplishments, but this year's Dallas offensive line just might be the best the NFL has seen since Smith's heyday.

Of course, it's somewhat of a chicken-or-the-egg argument, as great offensive lines rarely get recognition when they're stuck blocking for lousy running backs.

In any case, Murray is well on his way to a pair of franchise records, and he'll also hope to record just the eighth 2,000-yard rushing season in NFL history.
