CM Punk Talks Vince McMahon Apology in 2nd Colt Cabana Interview

Former WWE Superstar CM Punk helped break the internet with his first interview with Colt Cabana on the Art of Wrestling podcast, and the former world champion returned for a second part of the discussion. 

One of the major talking points in the conversation was Punk addressing WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon’s apology for sending him his severance papers on his wedding day (this part of the conversation begins at around the 55 minute mark).

McMahon addressed Punk’s situation after Monday’s Raw on Stone Cold Steve Austin’s live podcast (found on the WWE Network) and claimed that he had no intent to send termination papers on his wedding day, blaming a lack of communications between the talent relations and legal departments.

Punk claimed that he believes officials at WWE knew what they were doing and conscientiously fired him on that specific day. He claims that he sent Triple H a text message two days before his wedding stating that the two could talk when he returned from his honeymoon.

He also says his wife, former Divas champion AJ Lee, took time off from work at the WWE for her wedding and subsequent honeymoon, indicating that there were at least a few officials within talent relations who knew it was Punk’s wedding day.

After receiving many messages following the first interview, Punk rebuts fellow wrestler Chris Jericho’s claims that Punk will likely return to the company eventually. In his comments, Punk expresses how much he was offended by the way the company handled his exit and claimed he and Jericho were not in the same situation.

Punk doesn’t close the door completely on possibly returning to the wrestling ring in the future, saying he could go work against The Young Bucks at the independent promotion PWG, but he makes it very clear he doesn’t think he will ever return to the WWE.

The candid discussion between Punk and Cabana reminds many wrestling fans why they supported The Second City Savior in the first place. Punk is still rocking the boat despite being out of the business, and his unique attitude and ability to articulate his thoughts will make fans miss him in the ring and on the mic now more than ever.
