SD Huesca vs. FC Barcelona: Score, Report and Reaction from Copa Del Rey

Michael CummingsDec 3, 2014

Andres Iniesta scored in his return from injury as Barcelona all but assured progress to the next round of the Copa del Rey with a 4-0 victory at third-tier SD Huesca on Wednesday night.

Iniesta, who missed more than a month of action with a calf injury, started in a makeshift Barca side and netted a fine goal in the 16th minute to double his side's lead. Ivan Rakitic had opened the scoring with a well taken free-kick four minutes earlier.

Pedro, making a rare start in the forward line, scored Barcelona's third goal six minutes before half-time. Rafinha added the fourth in the second half.

Superstar attackers Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez all took the night off, with none included in manager Luis Enrique's side.

With the win, Barcelona will be strong favourites to advance to the Copa del Rey's round of 16. The same two teams will meet in the second leg at Barcelona's Camp Nou on Dec. 16. The winner over two legs will play Valladolid or Elche in the next round.

First, though, Barcelona will resume La Liga play with a match at home to Espanyol on Sunday. The Blaugrana currently sit in second place, two points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Barcelona took the lead in the 12th minute via a brilliant free-kick by Rakitic. Lining up slightly right of centre and well outside the box, Rakitic drove his shot around the wall and into the top corner for a 1-0 lead.

From there, Barca never looked back. Iniesta made it 2-0 just four minutes later, finishing first time in the top corner from the edge of the box after Pedro set up Rakitic for the assist with a clever backheel.

Rakitic came close to a second goal in the 37th minute, but this time his free-kick rebounded off the post.

Pedro netted Barcelona's third in the 39th minute. After exchanging passes with Iniesta on the left, Pedro cut inside and tucked in a bouncing shot at the near post.

Barcelona maintained their dominance in the second half and added a fourth goal in the 72nd minute. Substitute Sergi Roberto drove down the middle of Huesca's side and laid off for Rafinha on the right. After cutting inside, Rafinha sent a deflected shot in at the near post.

Huesca had a chance to score a consolation goal in the 83rd minute after a Barcelona giveaway set up Guillem Marti in front of goal. As Marti shaped to shoot, though, Barca defender Marc Bartra slid across to block. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen then saved on the rebound from Juan Eduardo Esnaider.

The hosts came close again in the 88th minute, but Jesus David Sosa volleyed over the bar after Barcelona failed to clear a cross.

Barcelona put the ball in the net again in stoppage time, but Sandro Ramirez's close-range finish was correctly ruled offside.
