WWE TLC 2014: Titles Most Likely to Change Hands at Event

Sharon GlencrossDec 3, 2014

Look for a couple of titles to change hands at WWE's TLC event later this month, as the company shakes things up heading into 2015 and the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. In fact, it will be very interesting to see what WWE does with several of its midcard belts at the show.

The Intercontinental Championship

Luke Harper's dropping the Intercontinental Championship back to Dolph Ziggler seems likely.

Cleveland—where the show is taking place—is Ziggler's hometown. WWE will want to give the crowd a nice feel-good moment and send them home happy. Booking Ziggler to lose would just needlessly deflate them and potentially hinder the rest of the show.

And Ziggler's career has been on the upswing since his spectacular performance in the Survivor Series main event last month. It makes perfect sense for him to get his belt back too.

Arguably, Harper isn’t really delivering as champion either—he’s a solid in-ring performer of course, but he seems to lack that special something that makes a wrestler a must-see attraction. This is another reason why switching the belt wouldn’t be a bad idea.

The WWE Tag Team Championship

At TLC, The Miz and Damien Mizdow will defend their newly won WWE Tag Team Championship against Jimmy and Jay Uso. This is actually turning into a fairly interesting feud—unusual for the company’s stale tag division.

Notably, The Miz exacerbated things with Jimmy by striking up a conversation with Jimmy’s wife, Naomi, backstage on Monday’s Raw, praising her for her talents and looks and hinting he could make her a big Hollywood star if she followed his career advice. Her husband wasn’t too pleased, to put it mildly. Yes, this feud is getting personal—and it’s all the better for it. Credit to Jimmy for showing some genuine fire and passion in the angle too.

So don’t be too surprised if The Usos end up gaining some measure of revenge by winning the belts at the pay-per-view—it would shake things up a bit and help keep this program going.

The Divas Championship

While Nikki Bella only just won the Divas Championship at Survivor Series last month, it shouldn’t surprise anyone too much if she ends up dropping the title at the upcoming pay-per-view. WWE often has a habit of playing hot potato with the women’s belt—just look at how often AJ Lee and Paige have traded the title over the past few months.

Possibly, Bella could lose it back to Lee, which makes sense. WWE seems determined to keep Lee in the title picture, no matter what.

Naomi, who won Monday’s fan vote, is also a candidate. The star has always been a very respectable women’s wrestler, and as the voting results show, she’s obviously fairly over with the WWE Universe. Certainly, she deserves a title run as much as anyone.
