Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on Arturo Vidal, Wesley Sneijder Rumours

Matt JonesDec 3, 2014

Arturo Vidal was perpetually linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer and during the early parts of the current season, but the Juventus midfielder has insisted he is happy with the Bianconeri.

Speaking to Chilean radio station Cooperativa (h/t Gerard Brand of the Daily Mail), Vidal said that Serie A is beginning to feel a lot like home:

"

I feel content and happy here. This is my fourth year here and I feel right at home.

Things have gone really well and we are returning to play at the maximum level. I am very happy with our results.

There are always transfer rumours but I am calm. When a transfer window is about to open there are always reports but I never think about that, I have an agent that takes care of that.

After overcoming injury problems that punctured the early weeks of his season, Vidal looks to have recaptured the sparkling form that had many lauding him as the finest midfield player on the planet last season.

With Juventus top of the pile in Serie A and looking likely to progress in the Champions League, there’s seemingly little reason for the Chilean to go in search of pastures new.

Here's why he's become such a key player for Juventus of late:

Such has been Vidal’s exceptional development with the Italian champions, he has been shortlisted as one of the midfielders for the 2014 FIFPro World XI, per Squawka:

Vidal’s unrelenting energy, eye for a pass and defensive diligence would make him an undeniably fine acquisition for United. However, it would be difficult to disagree with the notion that this kind of money could be better utilised elsewhere, most notably in defensive areas of the team.

PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL - JUNE 17: Manager of Netherlands Louis van Gaal and Wesley Sneijder get ready to speak to the media at the Netherlands Press Conference at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil held at the Estadio Beira-Rio on June 17, 2014 in Porto Alegre

It seems that with Vidal settled and in form, it would take a major offer for United to acquire the player’s services in the January window. With that in mind, Louis van Gaal could turn to another midfield option and a playmaker he is very familiar with indeed.

That man is veteran Dutch midfield Wesley Sneijder.

According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Alex Harris of the Daily Star), the 30-year-old is in talks with the Red Devils about a possible move from Turkish giants Galatasaray. The news comes in stark contrast to recent quotes from Sneijder claiming he was happy in Turkey, per Harris’ piece:

"

There is always transfer news about me.

The transfer season is approaching so this type of news is normal, they always seem to escalate at this time of the year and I don't think you really need to guess why.

Here’s a look at some of Sneijder’s best moments from what has been a distinguished career to date:

Sneijder’s exemplary displays in the 2014 World Cup—in which he helped Van Gaal's Netherlands team to a third-place finish—prove that he still has the class to cut it at the top level despite his age. However, with Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata already vying for the No. 10 spot at United, the former Internazionale man would have his work cut out nailing down a regular space in the team.

Like Vidal, Sneijder is a player who has been linked with United for an extended time period. If a deal was to happen, he’d give this Red Devils team another high-quality option. However, such is the furious hyperbole that has surrounded United and the player in months and years past, it’s surely a deal that would have happened already if it was going to at all.
