Despite the issue, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters that Ellington would still be a focal point of the offense, according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com:

Ellington previously suffered a hip injury that caused him to leave a loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13. He didn't return, raising flags about a potential further absence, but the ailment was later diagnosed as a minor hip pointer.

The Clemson product hasn't been able to match his encouraging rookie campaign. He averaged better than five yards per carry to earn a larger role. But he's been unable to match that type of production, leading to more of a committee approach as of late.

As for Ellington, the Cardinals have some choices to make during the offseason. The best option is probably bringing in another proven option to share the load. There's a good chance he could still be a valuable asset in a more specific role, as was the case last year.

More information about his injury status will be provided as it becomes available.
