Geno Smith, Zach Sudfeld's Post-Week 13 Fantasy Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldDec 1, 2014

If fantasy owners are in a real pinch, scraping the bottom of the barrel and hoping for some sort of miracle as the playoffs approach, perhaps New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith and tight end Zach Sudfeld merit consideration.

Other more fortuitous roto enthusiasts need not apply. Smith's limitations as a passer were disguised by a run-heavy game plan in Week 13's 16-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Monday.

This tweet from Sports Illustrated's Chris Burke says it all for Smith:

Or how about this, from NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah:

Smith wound up passing Ryan Fitzpatrick by one in the above categories. Still, what a joke.

The one explosive play the Jets produced through the air was a Smith pass to Sudfeld for 20 yards. Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus weighed in on Sudfeld's flash at MetLife Stadium:

Sudfeld has decent athleticism and hands, but he was a 2013 undrafted free agent and has done little in his NFL career to suggest he's ready to be a big fantasy factor.

With how generally unproductive the tight end position has been this year, perhaps Sudfeld merits a waiver-wire flier if the Jets air it out more.

And that's only if rookie Jace Amaro continues to be out of the lineup as he was Monday and Jeff Cumberland, who has 16 receptions this season, is no longer used as a pass-catcher.
