John Cena vs. Seth Rollins Table Match Announced for TLC 2014

WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs looks to have its main event

The anonymous Raw general manager announced on Monday night that John Cena will face Seth Rollins in a tables match:

It's the third match announced for the card, joining Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose in a TLC match and Kane vs. Ryback in a chairs match.

As Ringside Xcess noted, Cena's No. 1 contender shot against WWE World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is on the line when he wrestles Rollins:

With Lesnar unlikely to take part in the pay-per-view, it makes sense that WWE would find a way to tie its flagship title into the show. WrestlingInc.com thinks it also allows the company more time to stall until Lesnar and Cena can meet at Royal Rumble, one of the biggest PPVs of the year:

At first glance, Rollins vs. Cena is a bit underwhelming, at least under the present circumstances. Few will believe that Rollins can win, thus eliminating much of the drama behind the match. Plus, Rollins already possesses the Money in the Bank briefcase, so he doesn't need to earn another title shot.

In addition, WWE wouldn't leave itself much time to build another No. 1 contender for Lesnar before Royal Rumble if Cena's out of the equation.

Tables, Ladders & Chairs was always bound to be a transitional PPV as WWE prepares for the Rumble and WrestleMania season, so it's hard to be too disappointed with Rollins vs. Cena. Rollins and Cena have done battle quite often when the former was a member of The Shield, but they haven't crossed paths in the ring much since Rollins joined The Authority.
