Liverpool Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of December 1

Matt LadsonDec 1, 2014

December is upon us, which can only mean one thing—the January transfer window is right around the corner!

A month today, theoretically, a new signing could be announced by Liverpool FC—better than any Christmas present you might receive before then.

Well, depending on who the signing is, anyway.

It's a rare Monday morning where Liverpool fans are waking up fresh from a win at the weekend—their first in the Premier League in six weeks.

With a match against Leicester City on Tuesday night and then the visit of Sunderland to Anfield on Saturday, Brendan Rodgers will be hoping his side can build some momentum ahead of the huge Champions League clash with Basel next week.

In the meantime, here are the latest LFC transfer rumours and reports.

Gerrard Contract Latest

1 of 4

Steven Gerrard's contract situation dominates headlines on Monday, with David Maddock of the Daily Mirror reporting that a new one-year extension had been offered but that Gerrard and his representatives had yet to respond.

Maddock claims Gerrard's agent is seeking a two-year extension.

Rodgers confirmed the offer at a press conference on Monday morning, per ITV Sport: "He has been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that is where it is at."

Johnson to Leave on Free for AS Roma

2 of 4

"Glen Johnson says he has no intention of 'crawling' to Liverpool in order to secure a new Anfield deal," write Matt Law and Chris Bascombe in The Telegraph.

They claim the 30-year-old full-back is wanted by Italian side AS Roma, and with a new contract unlikely to be agreed due to his £120,000-per-week wages, Johnson will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement next month.

Karim Benzema

3 of 4

Because false hope is what kills football fans, Karim Benzema is apparently a player who Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is ready to listen to offers for, according to the Daily Express' Jamie Anderson.

"Benzema only recently signed a new five-year contract worth a reported £150,000 per-week which means the Premier League trio won't acquire him cheaply," writes Anderson.

Don't get your hopes up on this one!

Bony Also Wanted by Man City

4 of 4

Having shown interest in signing Wilfried Bony in the summer—but baulking at his reported wage demands—Liverpool would now face competition from Manchester City for the Swansea forward, according to Garry Doolan of the Daily Star.

The Ivorian has been in impressive form this season with six goals already, and Liverpool fans must be wondering what might have been had they signed Bony instead of Mario Balotelli.
